Michael Clarke has defended Australia’s selection process throughout the summer, declaring that the policy of resting players with minor niggles made sense due to the evenness of Australia’s talent base. Clarke has returned to the one-day team for the third match against Sri Lanka in Brisbane on Friday after being left out of the first two games to rest his hamstring.It was one of several times during the summer that Australia omitted men who could have played but were kept on the sidelines as injury precautions. Peter Siddle and Ben Hilfenhaus sat out of the Perth Test against South Africa after their heavy workloads in the previous Test, and with both men suffering minor injuries, and a month later Mitchell Starc was rested from the Boxing Day Test, although it was not until this week that it was revealed he had bone spurs in his ankle.Clarke conceded that at times during this season the public had not been made aware of injury niggles to players who were rested, although he said the team was wary of revealing information that might be used by the opposition. However, he said all the decisions made by the selection panel made sense given what the selectors knew about the players’ fitness levels.”There’s a lot that is spoken about within the group that people outside the group probably aren’t aware of,” Clarke told reporters in Brisbane. “We’ve probably seen some cases throughout the past 12 months where guys have not been 100% fit or had little niggles that probably haven’t been communicated as well as they needed to be to the media, and in essence to the public.”The Perth Test match was a great example. Call it resting Peter Siddle and Ben Hilfenhaus [but] the facts were they just weren’t fit enough to perform at their best. The two guys who we brought in for Siddle and Hilfenhaus [John Hastings and Mitchell Johnson], we were confident that they could do a better job at 100% than those guys at 70 or 80%.”Such decisions have brought severe criticism from a range of former players this summer, including Shane Warne, Brett Lee and Ian Chappell. But Clarke said he believed rotating out players who had minor injury worries made sense in the current era, whereas during the days when Steve Waugh and Ricky Ponting were in charge of a dominant side, it would not have been a sensible move.”The issue where the Australian team now is compared to where it was ten years ago, is ten years ago you had four, five, six, seven great players in one team, so if they were 80% fit, they were still good enough to win a game for Australia,” Clarke said. “Where we sit now as a team is, it’s a lot different to that.”The gap between the 11 players that take the field and the 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th, 16th player is quite close, so if you’re not 100% fit to perform at your best, it’s not worth the risk for the team for you to take to the field and let the team down.”What the public wants to see is the best possible Australian team on the field, every game, and honestly I think we’re trying to do that. I really do. I think the risk of playing someone when they’re not 100% fit, if they do get injured, can put them out for six weeks, six months.”

Na última quarta-feira aconteceu a pré-estreia do filme que conta a história de glórias e fatos marcantes dos 100 anos de existência do Fortaleza Esporte Clube. Em formato de documentário, o longa intitulado “Meu Tricolor de Aço” traz depoimentos de ídolos do passado e de torcedores ilustres do Leão.

Fundado em 1918, o clube é um dos mais tradicionais do país. Conta com equipes e títulos memoráveis em seu passado, e capítulos recentes muito celebrados por seus torcedores, como o título estadual de 2015, alcançado após um gol do atacante Cassiano nos acréscimos, e também a conquista da Série B do Campeonato Brasileiro de 2018, sob o comando do técnico Rogério Ceni.

O presidente do Fortaleza, Marcelo Paz, deu suas impressões sobre a produção.

– Esse filme é um registro histórico muito completo que retrata diversas épocas do clube, as glórias e também momentos de dificuldade. Ele resgatou personagens importantes, como ex-jogadores, ex-dirigentes e funcionários. É, de certa forma, o manual do Fortaleza em vídeo, e culminou com esse ano maravilhoso que nós vivemos em nosso centenário, com o acesso e o título. Foi um enredo perfeito e que vai agradar bastante o público nos cinemas.

Após a exibição do documentário, o presidente atendeu e tirou fotos com torcedores que compareceram ao evento, que aconteceu no Shopping Center Lapa, localizado na zona oeste da capital paulista.

Além da presença do empresário Raul Doria, irmão do governador do estado de São Paulo, João Doria, também esteve presente no evento o senador Luiz Eduardo Girão, um dos diretores da Estação Luz Filmes, produtora do documentário, e ex-presidente do Fortaleza. Ele destacou o que, em sua opinião, é o papel principal da obra.

– É uma homenagem ao grande patrimônio do Fortaleza, aos donos de verdade do clube, que é a torcida. É uma forma de reconhecimento do que eles têm feito pelo time ao longo desses 100 anos. O amor desses torcedores encanta o Brasil inteiro, e agora está nas telas. O filme é a ‘cereja do bolo’, a coroação de um ano tão perfeito dessa equipe.

O projeto começou a ser colocado em prática no início da campanha vitoriosa do Leão na Série B do Brasileirão de 2018, e contou com a direção de Glauber Filho, Valdo Siqueira e Tibico Brasil.

Sobre o filme, Tibico falou sobre a experiência e o processo de produção.

– Foi algo novo para mim, pois foi a primeira vez que trabalhei com um documentário ligado a esporte. Começamos a gravá-lo no começo da Série B, e a expectativa era produzir um material clássico sobre o centenário do clube, o que já seria um grande desafio, porque são 100 anos para sintetizar em 72 minutos. Começamos em 1918, com o fundador Alcides Santos e vamos acompanhando as glórias, vitórias e também as derrotas e momentos difíceis do clube. O filme é montado através dos depoimentos de jogadores, ex-jogadores, mas tem uma presença muito grande de torcedores e conta com a colaboração de pesquisadores que trabalharam com a história do clube.

O diretor completa ressaltando as particularidades que esse trabalho ofereceu.

– A produção foi crescendo à medida que o time tinha um bom desempenho na temporada, e fomos atualizando o documentário com a bela história que estava acontecendo, o que é raro para um documentarista, que normalmente apenas relata fatos que já aconteceram. Espero que as pessoas se emocionem assistindo, assim como nós nos emocionamos e nos encantamos por essa história tão interessante na produção do filme.

Desde a última quinta-feira, o filme está em cartaz em cinemas de todo o estado do Ceará e também no Shopping Center Lapa, em São Paulo, palco do evento de pré-estreia.

Khawaja will captain the side for the three-day game and while most members of the team are younger players who have been rewarded for some early-season form, all eyes will be on Khawaja and Doolan.Cricket Australia emphasised that the squad was chosen before Ponting made his decision to retire from international cricket, meaning the match is not intended as a bat-off for Test selection. Phillip Hughes is also a strong contender to take Ponting’s place, although it would require a reshuffle in the Test batting order, but for Khawaja especially runs against the Sri Lankans would be a case of perfect timing.Khawaja, 25, is third on the Sheffield Shield run tally this summer with 438 runs at 39.81 and his century in extremely difficult conditions in Hobart earlier this month was especially impressive. O estádio do Beira-Rio, assim como acontece na Arena do arquirrival, terá um setor dedicado aos torcedores do Internacional que gostam de assistir a partida em pé, sem as tradicionais cadeiras, simulando a antiga tradição brasileira de um setor comumente chamado de Geral.

Em seu site oficial, o Colorado divulgou que deu início nessa semana ao processo de retirada de cinco mil cadeiras, número máximo permitido pela legislação e os respectivos órgãos de segurança. Antes de começar essa retirada, o clube afirmou que passou por trâmites de segurança envolvendo três entidades diferentes do estado:Batalhão de Operações Especiais,Brigada Militar eCorpo de Bombeiros.

Além da retirada das cadeiras, está previsto na iniciativa a instalação das chamadas barras antiesmagamento, não permitindo que a movimentação conhecida como avalanche ocorra e possa causar acidentes mais graves com os torcedores que ocupem o setor.

Nas palavras do diretor de patrimônio, Marcelo Poloni, essa medida é solicitada pelo torcedor desde o início de 2017. Porém, somente agora foi possível concluir todas as análises e debates internos para que o projeto saísse do imaginário e entrasse na parte prática.

– Esse é um processo que iniciou praticamente junto com o começo desta gestão, no início de 2017. Logo que a gente assumiu, contratamos uma empresa especializada no assunto que começou a fazer os estudos e projetos de viabilidade técnica. – Depois de atender todas as solicitações dos órgãos responsáveis, principalmente o Corpo de Bombeiros, que sempre foi muito solícito, iniciamos a remoção com o objetivo de no início da temporada estar tudo pronto e a torcida possa ter este setor disponível para fazer uma festa ainda maior – completou.

Rodrigo Pimpão, com quem a torcida alvinegra cultiva relação de amor e ódio, vive fase em que é, quase sempre, pedido pelas vozes da arquibancada. Se os titulares não derem conta, ele deve entrar para tentar.

وقال كلوب: “مباراة مانشستر سيتي بالغة الأهمية، هذا هو الشيء الوحيد الذي لا يختلف عن كل السنوات الأخرى، نحن نعلم أنها مباراة ضخمة، أسبوع مهم قادم، لا يمكننا التفكير في المباريات الأخرى بسبب مباراة الغد”.

وعما إذا كانت خططه ستتغير إذا لم يلعب هالاند، أضاف كلوب: “ليس كثيرا، عندما تقوم بالتحضير لمباراة ما، فأنت تجهز كل الأشياء لتجنب التمريرة النهائية، وهذا هو المكان الذي يدخل فيه هالاند المباراة حقًا، إنه مهاجم لائق، لكنهم أصبحوا أبطالا بدون مهاجم”.

وعن الإصابات، صرح “عاد لويس دياز في أجزاء صغيرة من التدريب، من الرائع عودته، لكنه لن يتدرب معنا اليوم، كان هذا الأسبوع أول خطوة له للعودة إلى تدريب الفريق، الأسبوع المقبل سنزيد ذلك، يبدو الأمر واعدًا حقًا، نحن في المراحل النهائية”.

A little over a year ago, Sean Ervine thought hard about giving upcounty cricket to concentrate on playing for his native Zimbabwe inwhatever form of the game he could still participate. There was,though, something about the lure of Hampshire cricket – as well as the lure of becoming anEnglishman – that led him to stay put. It is just as well for Hampshire’ssake that he did, for his innings against Glamorgan was perhaps themost valuable he has played.On a green pitch which was indistinguishable from the rest of thesquare at the start of play, Hampshire, asked to bat, slumped to 97for 5 and then 204 for 8t. Ervine was dropped without scoring byMark Wallace, a low, difficult chance, and then on 76, a quitecatchable opportunity at long on. He relied on eye, instinct and goodtiming in making an unbeaten 109, his first century of the season.Ervine was also reliant on support from David Balcombe, who is too good to be goingin last. Together they put on 85 from 86 balls for the last wicket:entertaining hitting against an attack shorn of its three best seamersand which, until then, had performed perfectly respectably. Ratherthan defend in textbook manner and sooner or later be beaten by theconditions as much as the bowling, this pair simply looked to hit theball – hard.So a total of 316 could well be a pretty useful one. For this does notlook to be a four-day pitch. John Glover took the new ball forGlamorgan and moved it sufficiently off the seam to have Liam Dawsonleg before and Michael Carberry and James Vince taken by Mark Wallace.Simon Katich was his customary adhesive self, compiling 36 beforeplaying slightly across the line at Will Owen as if batting on theharder pitches of his homeland down under.Jimmy Adams and Michael Bates, by contrast, played straight andwatchfully. Ervine reached his century with a six overlong on off Allenby, having made his previous best score this season,75, against Glamorgan. His clean hitting emphasised why RodBransgrove, the Hampshire chairman, believes him to be a good enoughcricketer to represent England, as he has just become qualified to do.Had James Harris, Huw Waters and Graham Wagg been playing, thelikelihood is that Hampshire would not have reached 300. Even so,Wallace had little option but to bowl first when he inspected thepitch. Until the umpires appeared to have their own examination, andwhile the groundstaff were in their hutch at square leg, it really wasimpossible to tell where the match would take place. Still, this madefor an interesting day. And there is pace in the pitch.Glamorgan’s openers, the cerebral Gareth Rees, and Nick James, whoreplaced Stewart Walters, survived the seven overs they had to face ona sultry evening. Their side has mustered just one batting bonus pointthus far this season, an embarrassing statistic which provides justthe incentive they need to make some runs now.
