Ashish Nehra ready for Test comeback

Ashish Nehra, one of India’s first-choice seamers in the shorter versions of the game, has made himself available for Test cricket, six and a half years since he last turned out in whites at the highest level.”I had never said that I will not play Test cricket again,” Nehra told . “It was just that initially after my comeback, I wanted to concentrate on the ODIs and Twenty20s. Now that I am back in the national side for one and a half years, I feel confident to make a comeback in the Test fold. I will like to make myself available for selection during the South Africa Test series.”A spate of injuries in the mid-2000s pushed Nehra out of the Indian team, but he clawed back into the reckoning with a watershed performance in the 2009 IPL in South Africa, where he stood third in the wickets chart with 18. He has since become a regular in India’s ODI plans and sporadically featured in Twenty20 internationals. His susceptibility to injuries, however, has kept him out of the Test team.Since his international comeback in June 2009, Nehra has played 36 one-dayers, picking 54 wickets at an average just under 30. More importantly, he has not missed a single game due to fitness issues or injuries, and Nehra hopes that he can carry that durability into the longest version. He is headed to the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore to follow a fitness program that will prepare him for the upcoming tour of South Africa.”I am planning to play one Ranji Trophy for Delhi before the New Zealand ODI series to check how my body is holding. I am enjoying my cricket at the moment and I don’t see any reason why I can’t make a comeback.”For me the top-most priority is the World Cup next year. That is why I have been so choosy about playing in the longer version. But after World Cup, there is lot of Test cricket to be played as India would be playing against England, West Indies. I will like to again play Test cricket with the same intensity that I used to at the start of my career.”While Nehra is keen to return to Tests, it remains to be seen whether the selectors, who have treated India’s fast-bowling talents on a case-by-case-basis, will include him in their plans. Zaheer Khan is currently the only seamer who walks into the side in all three formats, but, of late, he has been used selectively in a bid to prolong his career. Nehra, on the other hand, has slotted well into the one-day side, with his ability to move the new ball and deliver yorkers in the closing stages. Ishant Sharma and Sreesanth, who have been lacklustre in the shorter versions, have been persisted with for Test cricket. Both bowlers have reposed that faith with strong performances in recent times, and Nehra will have to stave off competition from them to enter the Test side.

We'll be judged on performance in decider – Vettori

Daniel Vettori is not satisfied with two draws and has said that the team will be judged on how it performs in the decider in Nagpur

Two draws in India is not a satisfactory result for Daniel Vettori•Associated Press

They said New Zealand will be swept 0-3. They said New Zealand’s batsmen don’t have the patience to bat out in Indian conditions. They said the bowlers can’t push India at home. They were wrong. Contrary to knee-jerk pre-series predictions of a whitewash, New Zealand have not rolled up and surrendered. Daniel Vettori, though, is not satisfied and said that the team will be judged on how it performs in the decider in Nagpur.”This one is the most important for us. I think the way our team will be viewed will be more on this Test rather than the previous two. We can’t be satisfied. The moment you are satisfied in world cricket, it is the start of your downfall. We can never put ourselves in that position because we aren’t good enough yet and we are looking to improve all the time. We are happy with what we have done but we are definitely not satisfied. Our expectations are high even though we are the eighth-ranked team in the world.”Chris Martin’s five-for nearly pushed them towards a win in the first Test and they were never under much pressure to save the second.Vettori put the success down to “excellent preparations” before the series and the post-mortem after the debacle in Bangladesh. “We prepared exceptionally well and we got confidence from that preparation,” he said. “Fortunately, our performances followed. And when your performances follow, the camp’s pretty happy and there is a lot of confidence going around. So, not a lot needs to be said to the players.”There must have been lot to be say, though, after they were comprehensively beaten in the ODI series in Bangladesh. “There was a little bit of hard talk. I think a lot of players know themselves; you don’t need to say too much because people understand expectations on them and people have their own personal expectations. Unfortunately, we weren’t at our best in Bangladesh and Bangladesh played very well. You have to keep improving, you have to keep adapting and you are always playing good teams. So there is nowhere to hide.”We knew India are a huge challenge here and our talks were mainly about coming here to try and win a series. As soon as the talk veers to draws and gutsy losses, then that’s not a good sign for the team. The team picked itself up pretty quickly. We want to continue all the hard work that we have put in so far. It’s important that we don’t get ahead of ourselves and just let the Test match play itself out. But we are certainly excited to be in this position and we hope we will continue the good work that we have done.”Vettori said he was not going to get into a debate about favourites and underdogs ahead of the final Test. “That’s for you guys [media] to decide. Both MS [Dhoni] and I think about the game reasonably similarly and go into the game preparing and playing as best as you can. That’s what we have done in the first Tests and there’s no reason for us to change anything. We just have to come back a little harder. We still expect India to be at their best and we know that they have got some amazing players. You still look at them, their team and what they have done over the last little while and realise just how good they are. We are fairly sure we know what to expect.”

Football Betting – Strategies & Tips

Football is the world’s biggest sport, with over 3.5 billion fans world-wide. The sport is played in almost every corner of the world, and basically every country has a national league. The greatest interest and best quality in football is found in the European leagues, such as Premier League.

Not only is football popular amongst players and fans – betters also follow the predicted outcomes of games. Bets can be placed on dedicated betting sites that focuses solely on sports betting, or on casinos that offers traditional casino games such as table games and slots online, but also have a section with odds.

However, when it comes to betting, there is more to it than just placing a bet on the odds you think are the most favourable. For example, keeping track of the players’ performances can make great differences in the outcomes of the game.

Keep an eye on your team and the players

If you are betting on a team sport like football, it is important that you get to know the teams as well as possible. This is a betting strategy that is of outmost importance. You need to locate all the key information such as: their strengths and weaknesses, their current and previous form, how they perform at home versus away, injuries that have occurred within the team etc. It is only with this information that you can truly and objectively evaluate and analyse the team and its players.

You also need to keep an eye on various changes that might be happening to the teams as well as how they have performed the previous season versus the last. Have a look at which players are getting worn out, those who are leaving and which new players that are entering.

Make sure to have both discipline and patience

Placing winning bets requires either a lot of luck, or it can be a combination of skill and luck. If you do not keep your head in the game, quite literally, you will not be able to learn any strategies.

If you want to get a grip of betting strategies, step one is to understand that a lot of focus is required from you. You cannot hope that things will just come naturally. It requires time, discipline, and patience, which is far from suitable for all players, and therefore not everyone can, or even wants to, bet strategically.

Budgeting is necessary

As you can imagine, betting strategically is about increasing your chances of winning in the first place. It is, however, also about controlling how much you spend. With that said, budgeting is necessary for a good betting strategy. A wise rule of thumb, that goes for all sorts of gambling, is to only gamble with money that you can afford to lose. Additionally, you should never place further odds to win back what you have once lost.

Gambling, if not controlled, can pose a risk for addiction and thus, you must be aware of the risks that follows with the activity. Budgeting is one way to lower the risks of a huge loss.

West Ham fumbled N’Golo Kante transfer

For much of the last decade or so, West Ham United have so often splashed the cash too readily in the transfer market, resulting in a long list of forgettable faces who have come and gone in the GSB era.

However, while the club and its owners are likely to regret the notable expensive mistakes they’ve made in recent times – namely club-record flop Sebastian Haller – they should also be ruing the occasions when they didn’t get out the cheque book, having missed out on a handful of potential stars.

One such missed opportunity is that of N’Golo Kante, with the current Chelsea sensation having been earmarked as a potential new addition way back in 2015 during Slaven Bilic’s time in charge, only for the club to fail to get the deal over the line.

Reports at the time suggested that the Hammers were very much interested in the then Caen midfielder, with L’Equipe hinting that the Premier League outfit were close to placing an offer for the diminutive Frenchman.

It is believed that a £5m bid would have been enough to prise the Paris-born man from his homeland, although the east London outfit inexplicably fumbled the deal, with the player instead joining Leicester City in a £5.6m move later that summer.

What makes such a head-scratching decision even more baffling is the fact that rather than pursue the 5 foot 6 dynamo, David Sullivan and co instead opted to sign former Arsenal man Alex Song on another season-long loan deal from Barcelona, having already had the Cameroonian at the club the previous season.

The 49-cap international would go on to make just 12 top-flight appearances that season before eventually moving on to Rubin Kazan, while elsewhere that man Kante helped to drag Claudio Ranieri’s plucky Foxes to a remarkable title triumph.

A £30m move to Chelsea followed after just a solitary season at the King Power Stadium, with the 31-year-old having since tasted European glory – in both the Champions League and Europa League – while also winning the World Cup with Les Bleus.

Dubbed “magic” by former Chelsea teammate Cesc Fabregas, the £45m-rated ace has also been labelled as “like a magnet to the ball” by pundit Rio Ferdinand, such is the consistent, all-action quality he has shown since his arrival in English football.

While there has been a suggestion that his powers are on the wane, even in his current form he would be an ideal presence in David Moyes’ side, with the prospect of him and Declan Rice partnering together a truly mouthwatering one.

As it happens, however, that duo could well feature together, just not for the Irons, with Rice having been heavily linked with a return to Stamford Bridge this summer.

If only West Ham had forked out that measly £5m for Kante…

Newcastle must sign Seko Fofana

Newcastle United moved 12 points clear of the bottom three in the Premier League with a dramatic win against Leicester on Sunday.

Bruno Guimaraes’ last-minute winner sealed the three points for the Toon as his double turned a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 win for Eddie Howe.

They are now all but safe from relegation as they have given themselves a huge gap to the bottom three with six games left to play.

This means that Howe can begin to plot what he wants to do in the transfer market this summer in order to push on in 2022/23 to compete higher up in the table instead of battling against the drop.

One player who has recently been touted with the Magpies is RC Lens central midfielder Seko Fofana as PIF look to bolster the club’s options in the middle of the park.

Imagine him & Wilson

Newcastle must secure a deal to sign the Ivorian because he can form a dream partnership with Callum Wilson in black and white next term.

Fofana, who is reportedly valued at £25m, has shown off his attacking quality in Ligue 1 this season and the prospect of him and Wilson linking up with each other through the middle of the pitch is an exciting one.

Journalist Said Amdaa recently lauded the gem. He Tweeted: “Seko Fofana. Unplayable in midfield with monster activity. Recoverer/scorer. Very reliable, the captain did not miss any match with Lens. His absence from the CAN with the (Ivory Coast) cost him 1st place for this title of best AFRICAN player in L1.”

In Ligue 1, he has scored seven goals and created 1.1 chances per match for Lens, whilst also completing 1.9 dribbles per game. This shows that he has the ability to break forward from midfield to make things happen in the final third and

Wilson, meanwhile, is Newcastle’s top scorer in the Premier League this season with six goals to his name in just 14 appearances. This is after he managed 12 goals and five assists in 23 starts in 2020/21 for the Toon, showing that he can be a deadly option at this level.

Now, imagine Fofana playing as a number eight or as a 10 behind Wilson up front with both of the breaking forward on the counter-attack to punish teams next season. They have both proven that they are dangerous in the final third and teams will surely be worried about facing the Magpies if they have that level of firepower in their XI.
