Australia captain Ricky Ponting has called on the ICC to make sure the Umpire Decision Review System is used in every series, after the Pakistan board did not put the system in place for the neutral series in England. As the “home” board, the PCB is in charge of such matters, and the UDRS will be used for the upcoming Pakistan-England series.However, it is also not being implemented in the Sri Lanka-India Test series, which prompted the Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara to express his disappointment. Ponting has also become used to the UDRS and although the on-field umpires had a reasonably good match at Lord’s, he would have preferred consistency across series.”I got my point across at the referee’s meeting before the series. I think that even the ICC could have stepped in on this occasion,” Ponting said. “It’s a financial thing at the end of the day, that’s the reason we are not using it. I thought the ICC could have come in and done something about it. It hasn’t eventuated so we’ve just got to get on with it now.”You do get used to playing a certain way and having some decisions sent back for a referral. But that’s all we’ve got so we just have to get on with it and let the umpires do their job out in the middle. I think Pakistan just didn’t get around to getting it organised quick enough or something. That was the way it was explained to us at the referee’s meeting.”The cost of the UDRS is one of the major stumbling blocks, and there are also issues around the availability of the equipment. However, given that the system was rolled out properly after a lengthy trial process, Ponting believed the ICC should have stepped in to ensure it was used.”I don’t know the ins and outs of the whole thing and the way it’s being run,” Ponting said. “In a series like this one which is a neutral one there is always going to be that dispute about who’s paying for it and should we use it. It was brought in as compulsory in Test cricket 12 months ago now. I felt if it was ever left up in the air that someone should have stepped in and made sure that it actually happened.”Haroon Lorgat, the chief executive of the ICC, defended the current process. Speaking on Test Match Special last week, he said there were several issues that determined whether the UDRS was to be used in the Pakistan-Australia series.”I understood there were some technical difficulties in getting it up and running before the first Test got going,” Lorgat said. “The way we fashion the current scenario is for the home team in consultation with the visitors to determine if they want DRS or not. That’s part of the process that we’re walking to introduce it on a permanent basis.”

Dorival Júnior já avisou que prepara dois times diferentes para o começo do Campeonato Paulista, e o fato está longe de ser somente um discurso. O São Paulo terá até treino em dois turnos em dia com partida do clube no Estadual, dando atividade à equipe que não for entrar em campo.

No sábado, o time fará seu primeiro jogo no Morumbi, às 19h, contra o Novorizontino. Antes, às 9h e às 15h30, no CT da Barra Funda, segundo programação divulgada pelo clube, os jogadores que não estiverem relacionados terão atividade em dois turnos, com trabalho programado também para a manhã do dia seguinte.

Na quarta-feira, dia da estreia oficial do Tricolor em 2018, contra o São Bento, em Sorocaba, às 19h30, Dorival mandará a campo um time cheio de reservas. Com isso, os principais jogadores, que devem ser poupados da partida, terão treinamento no mesmo dia, às 9h, no CT da Barra Funda.

O planejamento incomum foi traçado pela comissão técnica na reta final do Campeonato Brasileiro de 2017. A explicação é a curtíssima pré-temporada, com a primeira partida no Paulista ocorrendo apenas 14 dias após a reapresentação do elenco depois das férias. Já estava previsto que jogadores recém-promovidos das categorias de base ganhariam a chance.

Ajudou nessa programação a mudança no regulamento do Estadual, que prevê uma lista de inscrição com 26 jogadores e outra, chamada de lista B, sem limitações de número de inscritos e na qual podem ser registrados atletas da base do clube que tenham entre 16 e 21 anos e 12 meses de registro profissional. A novidade amplia as opções de Dorival.

Por isso, por exemplo, não houve pressa da diretoria para conseguir a documentação de Jucilei que homologa a sua liberação em definitivo do Shandong Luneng, da China. Já se sabia que ele não seria utilizado na primeira rodada do Paulista. Assim como é certo que serão desfalques os recém-contratados Diego Souza e Anderson Martins e o meia Cueva, que voltou das férias com seis dias de atraso.

A expectativa é de que Dorival tenha força máxima para o primeiro clássico na temporada, contra o Corinthians, no dia 27, no Pacaembu, pelo Campeonato Paulista. Quatro dias depois, a mesma equipe deve entrar em campo contra o Madureira, em jogo único, fora de casa, que define a sequência da equipe logo na primeira fase da Copa do Brasil – o São Paulo joga pelo empate para avançar.

The Czech Republic international arrived at West Ham in January 2020, joining on loan from Slavia Prague.

The initial £4m loan fee looked like an absolute bargain as he continued to impress for the Hammers. As a result, the Irons enacted the option to make the deal permanent with a £15m fee, and the midfielder signed a contract until the summer of 2024.

Soucek has played an integral part in David Moyes’ side since his arrival in east London, illustrated by being voted by Hammers fans as the club’s player of the year last season.

The Latest: Soucek contract negotiations

Thomas reported for The Athletic that West Ham have opened negotiations with the 26-year-old over a new deal, posting a link to the article via Twitter with the accompanying text of: “EXCL: Tomas Soucek in talks with West Ham over new four-year contract.”

Soucek is entering into the final two years of his current contract, and the club are eager to tie him down for his prime years with another long-term deal.

The Verdict: Get it done

Despite a dip in form this season, having supplied just one assist in the Premier League, West Ham fans will surely be delighted to see Soucek remain at the club for years to come, if he can agree to a contract extension.

West Ham vice-captain Declan Rice has sung his team-mate’s praises, proclaiming him as an “unbelievable” player, while former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær last year described Soucek as ‘a goal threat’ and ‘a physical threat’ who a ‘good player’ for Moyes’ ‘strong squad’.

With a current market valuation of £40.5m, it is imperative that the club are able to tie Soucek down for the long-term, especially with the heavy interest sniffing around midfield partner Rice during January.

A Ponte Preta amargou mais um rebaixamento em 2017. Um dos fatores que culminaram para esse péssimo resultado no Campeonato Brasileiro foram os erros nas contratações da Macaca. Muitos jogadores foram pouco utilizados ou simplesmente não conseguiram corresponder ao esperado como Xuxa, Negueba e Fernandinho.

O atacante Negueba ficou pouco mais de dois meses, jogou em cinco jogos e não marcou nenhum gol. Sem atuar uma partida inteira, foi dispensado a pedido do técnico Gilson Kleina. A última partida oficial pela Ponte foi no dia 16 de julho. O jogador foi afastado junto com outros atletas e ficou somente nos trabalhos físicos até deixar Campinas em agosto.

Renato Cajá tinha um dos salários mais altos do elenco da Ponte Preta mas passou 74 dias no departamento médico fazendo tratamento. Dos 25 jogos em que participou na temporada, o meia, de 33 anos, ficou 90 minutos em campo apenas duas vezes.

João Lucas e Fernandinho também deixaram a desejar. Contratados para dar conta da lateral esquerda, setor enfraquecido da equipe, os atletas tiveram baixo rendimento e a posição continuou com improvisos até o rebaixamento. João Lucas fez 10 jogos pela Ponte, rescindiu contrato e foi para o Figueirense no final de agosto. Fernandinho atuou em cinco jogos e não conseguiu dar sequência. Com contrato até maio deve ser emprestado em breve.

Aos 35 anos, o meia Xuxa foi contratado após se destacar pelo Mirassol no Paulistão. Na Ponte ele só esteve em campo por 77 minutos e não convenceu. Não atuou uma partida inteira e acabou emprestado ao Figueirense no segundo semestre.

Outro jogador que ficou devendo foi o volante paraguaio Jorge Mendoza, que tem contrato com a Macaca até o final de 2018. Ele atuou na equipe somente por 62 minutos. Seu desempenho irritou a torcida e o técnico Eduardo Baptista.

Reports in recent days have claimed that the West Midlands club are very much interested in the Seagulls ace, and that a deal could well be done if the Premier League side table a sizeable bid.

And now, journalist Ryan Taylor has delivered an update on the situation, revealing to GIVEMESPORT that Villa have made an approach to their top-flight counterparts.

He said: “I know they’ve had conversations with Brighton. But the message being relayed by Brighton over Bissouma is just: ‘No, we don’t want to get rid of him.”

Upgrade on Douglas Luiz

Amid speculation that Douglas Luiz is attracting interest from Arsenal, and confirmation from Villa boss Steven Gerrard that the club have yet to enter into contract talks with the Brazilian, Bissouma’s arrival would represent a significant upgrade.

As per Whoscored, the Mali international averages a whopping 3.6 tackles per game in the Premier League this season, while he also makes 1.9 interceptions too – compare that to those in the Villa squad, and he’s simply far better, with absolutely no-one matching him in either category.

In fact, he’s among the top-flight’s best, with only Leicester City’s Wilfred Ndidi able to match his tackles per match, while he ranks inside the top ten for interceptions.

It’s a move that has previously been backed by former Villa man Lee Hendrie, who said: “I did a chat with myself and Paul Merson on Soccer Saturday a few weeks ago talking about Bissouma, and we highlighted what he actually does. I mean, his stats are absolutely phenomenal, the way he breaks the game up, his forward play.

“He’s got a good football brain. Like I said, when you’ve got someone who breaks the game up so well and can go join in and play, I’m inviting players like that to the football club.”

The £25k-a-week earning star would be a superb signing for Villa.
