Fry makes West Ham claim involving GSB

Speaking to West Ham World, Peterborough United Director of Football Barry Fry has made a claim on club owners David Gold and David Sullivan.

The Lowdown: Transfer window opens…

The summer transfer window is now open and West Ham United fans will be eagerly anticipating who is brought through the door in east London.

Manager David Moyes’ priorities are said to be the permanent signing of Jesse Lingard, a new forward and a top class centre-half (Claret & Hugh).

However, clubs up and down the Premier League appear to be experiencing financial turmoil amid the coronavirus pandemic – an aspect of this window which could make business tricky.

The Latest: Fry makes encouraging West Ham claim

Speaking to West Ham World, Fry has made a claim involving Gold and Sullivan, who he has personally worked with, and reassured supporters that they will want to improve the squad after European qualification.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/west-ham-latest-news/” title=”West Ham latest news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

“I know Gold and Sullivan, when they went in they wanted in the next five years to get into Europe,” he explained.

“They’ve done that, it’s been a difficult journey along the way but they’ve done it and knowing the two David’s they’ll want to go on from that, or the three David’s, they’ll want to improve the squad and go higher than where they’ve gone this year, which is great news for West Ham fans.”

The Verdict: Fingers crossed…

The Hammers face an unfamiliar challenge next campaign in the form of more matches and longer travel distance for midweek games.

To cope with the demands of playing both in the Europa League and maintaining their current level domestically, signings to bolster the squad this summer are pretty much mandatory.

Fry’s claim that West Ham’s controversial co-owners will in fact want to push on comes as encouraging, and with the window closing on August 31, they now have plenty have of time to scour the market.

Leicester City linked to Ozan Kabak

Leicester City’s transfer plans have suffered a potential blow after it was revealed that Newcastle United are also keen on signing Schalke defender Ozan Kabak.

What’s the story?

The 21-year-old impressed during a six-month loan spell at Liverpool last season, however, the Reds decided not to take up their option to buy the Turkey international for £18 million.

Now though, Kabak is the subject of interest from Premier League sides Leicester and Newcastle, according to German outlet Bild.

Rodgers will be gutted

Brendan Rodgers’ charges have been linked with a move for Kabak for several weeks as the Northern Irish manager looks to strengthen his first-team squad over the summer.

The departure of experienced defenders Wes Morgan and Christian Fuchs means the Midlands outfit need to bolster their backline over the coming months, with a Europa League campaign on the horizon.

After a shaky start to his Liverpool career – ironically against Leicester – Kabak grew in confidence after each game for the Anfield outfit, receiving a very respectable 6.72 WhoScored rating from his nine Premier League outings.

His solid displays earned praise from Jurgen Klopp as the 19-time English champions clawed themselves back into a Champions League qualification spot.

“Ozan came in at 20 from Germany, was a big prospect but wasn’t lucky with the last two teams he played for; one went down (Stuttgart), and the other will probably go down (Schalke). But nobody really doubted his quality,” said Klopp.

However, with the likes of Jonny Evans, Wesley Fofana and Caglar Soyuncu potentially ahead of Kabak at the King Power Stadium, the promise of first-team football may be enough to persuade the £22.5m-rated centre-back to join Newcastle instead of moving to the King Power.

The Magpies recovered from a disastrous run of form in the middle of the campaign to win five of their final nine league games, and Steve Bruce is looking to build on their end-of-season momentum in the transfer market.

News that one of his key transfer targets may be poached by a domestic rival, one who may be a more attractive proposition due to the game time on offer, will surely leave Rodgers feeling gutted as he attempts to build a squad capable of breaking into the top-flight’s top four.

And, in other news…Huge LCFC transfer update emerges on “outstanding” £34.5m ace, Rodgers will be gutted

Neville Fulger22-Apr-2001Ricky Anderson bowled Essex to a magnificent victory over Leicestershire with a day-and-a-half to spare in the opening CricInfo Championship game of the season at Grace Road.Anderson followed up his first innings haul of 4-21 with a 5-50 return in the second innings as Essex won by an innings and nine runs. With Aftab Habib absent because of a family bereavement the match ended just over 30 minutes after the lunch interval on the third day when Jon Dakin was caught at extra cover by Steve Peters to give Anderson his fifth wicket. It was a victory promoted Essex fully deserved having outplayed Leicestershire from start to finish on a pitch that always gave some assistance to the seam bowlers. The Essex attack certainly exploited the conditions to the full with Anderson outstanding as he bowled the perfect line and length.Leicestershire, who started the day at 62-2, lost three more wickets before lunch and only a fine innings from new overseas player Daniel Marsh kept the game alive.Marsh hammered a magnificent 61 off 80 balls with seven fours and two sixes before being the sixth man out. That was on the stroke of lunch and it took just another half-an-hour for Essex to claim the final three wickets they needed to pick up 18 points and launch the season in style. ith Aftab Habib absent because of a family bereavement

Police share pics of Gers’ 55 celebrations

Police Scotland have released more photos as they continue their fight to bring troublemakers during Glasgow Rangers’ 55 celebrations to justice.

The Lowdown: Controversial scenes

On May 15th, thousands of Gers fans took to the streets to celebrate their side being given the Premiership trophy after beating Aberdeen 4-0 at Ibrox.

While the scenes across the city of Glasgow were generally peaceful, there were some problems in George square – 20 arrests were made on the day (firstpost.com).

The Latest: More photos released

It seems Police Scotland are still looking for those who broke the law.

They have released 12 new images showing the faces of people they are looking to bring in – there are 13 people they wish to speak to (via The Daily Record).

The Verdict: Ugly scenes

Some of the scenes in George Square were particularly ugly. There were several scuffles that broke out and some damage to public property.

On what should have been a day of pure joy for the Gers supporters after ten long years without a major trophy to celebrate, a small few let down the rest of the fanbase, and the Ibrox outfit will surely be hoping these issues are resolved as quickly as possible so they can move on and focus on the new season.

However, on the whole, it must be pointed out the celebrations were peaceful. Unfortunately, no matter the event, there always seems to be a minority who ruin things for the majority. Hopefully, the Police can bring in who they need to speak to as soon as possible so the Gers can get back to the excitement of pressing on from their incredible season to go again next term.

Samuels out for three months

Marlon Samuels’ promising start to his international career has been put on hold for at least three months and probably beyond the upcoming home series against India and New Zealand

Tony Cozier13-Feb-2002Marlon Samuels’ promising start to his international career has been put on hold for at least three months and probably beyond the upcoming home series against India and New Zealand.Team manager Ricky Skerritt said yesterday original estimates that a knee operation here on Sunday would put the 21-year-old Jamaican out for between six and seven weeks had been amended.Unable to play in the two Tests here, he would still be recuperating during India’s tour of the West Indies for five Tests and five One-Day Internationals April 11 to June 2.Although New Zealand’s series of two Tests and three One-Day Internationals is not until June 5 to July 2, Samuels would have no chance to get match fit by then. The surgery removed a piece of bone after X-rays taken following his arrival here for the current series against Pakistan revealed a large defect on the inner part of the right knee. The part of the bone that required removal proved bigger than anticipated and three small incisions had to be made, rather than two, Skerritt said, quoting orthodpaedic surgeon Dr Deepak Bhajia who performed the keyhole operation. He said it had been a success and Samuels had reported feeling no pain in his knee for the first time in two years.Marlon is to have the stitches removed tomorrow and, to avoid putting pressure on the knee, is using crutches, the manager added. He will remain in Sharjah until the series is over and fly back with the team on Monday. As middle-order batsman and useful off-spinner, Samuels has played 12 Tests and 29 One-Day Internationals since he was suddenly pitch-forked into the series in Australia just over a year ago as a replacement for Shivnarine Chanderpaul. He made an immediate impression against the strong Australian attack but has not maintained his consistency since.Samuels joins another of the young band of batsmen sidelined by injury.Ramnaresh Sarwan, also 21 who has had 17 Tests since his debut against Pakistan in April 2000, was ruled out of the trip to Sharjah by a back complaint that has bothered him since the tour of Zimbabwe and Kenya last June and July.It is not known when he will return but he has not yet played for Guyana in the current Busta Series in the West Indies. While Samuels and Sarwan have been eliminated by injury, another young batsman gets his first chance at international level.Runako Morton, the 23-year-old Nevisian, arrived here Sunday after Samuels’ indisposition and Sherwin Campbell’s fractured finger that left the team short of two batsmen. He is expected to be in the 11 for the opening day-night One-Day International here tomorrow.Morton, who was not among the listed stand-bys for the tour, has been preferred to Leon Garrick, the little Jamaican who was.The selectors were clearly seeking a middle-order batsman, which Morton is, rather than an opener, which Garrick is.It is unlucky for Garrick who was on the West Indies tour of Sri Lanka last November and December but returned home before the One-Day Internationals because of a potentially serious heart problem. That has since been corrected and Garrick is enjoying a productive Busta Series, averaging 53.2 after three rounds.Morton was enjoying his best season when selected, averaging 73.5 for the Leewards from the first two Busta rounds. It marks a significant turnaround for the strongly-built Nevisian. He missed most of last season because of a broken hand and was expelled from the inaugural Shell Cricket Academy in Grenada last August on a disciplinary charge. He is a naturally gifted player, a stroke-playing batsman, fine, fast-moving fielder and occasional medium-pace bowler.Like Samuels, his opportunity has unexpectedly come knocking through someone else’s misfortune. It is there for him to take.

Gosto muito do Brasil, me sinto bem. Eu quero ficar no Palmeiras – declarou o camisa 8.
