The Lowdown: Celtic gear up for 2021/22

As Celtic look to re-shape ahead of 2021/22, their supporters will be intrigued to see how the Hoops go about mounting a sustainable title challenge this time around.

Despite not yet entering into the transfer market, the Hoops have been heavily linked with moves for Charlie Wyke and Mat Ryan as they eye positional reinforcements [Football Insider].

Keeping hold of key players will also be of equal importance to newly-appointed Celtic coach Ange Postecoglou, but one of the manager’s first acts of defiance has come as something of a surprise.

The Latest: Ralston agrees one-year extension

Ralston has been given an unexpected lifeline at Parkhead, penning a new deal until the summer of 2022 [The Scottish Sun]. He was originally due to be out of contract at the end of June, but Celtic have triggered a one-year prolongment clause to keep him in Glasgow for the foreseeable future.

The 22-year-old has rebuffed interest in his services from Premiership and Championship clubs by committing his future to the Glasgow giants [The Scottish Sun]. Ralston is now set to be given an opportunity to impress Postecoglou in pre-season training at Lennoxtown this week [67 Hail Hail].

The Verdict: New deal for Ralston necessary

The decision to keep Ralston on at Celtic may divide opinion amongst many Bhoys supporters.

On one hand, he is the only right-back on the books at Celtic Park with any senior experience. Since breaking into the first team picture in 2016/17, he has made just 20 appearances for the Celts, registering four goal contributions, with two goals and two assists [Transfermarkt].

He has never got close to holding down a regular spot in the Celtic starting line-up. Indeed, the 22-year-old has featured on loan for Dundee United, St Johnstone and Queens Park since 2015/16 [Transfermarkt].

Ralston only made a solitary Celtic appearance in 2020/21, partaking in a 0-0 draw at home to Livingston in January in a makeshift Hoops line up as 13 players had to isolate due to virus protocols [BBC], so news of a contract extension may come as a shock to many of the Parkhead faithful.

In reality, only time will tell with regards to whether Ralston becomes regularly involved at Celtic in the forthcoming campaign. Even if he only provides cover for prospective right-sided defensive signings, Celtic probably had little choice but to lengthen his terms due to a severe lack of depth in his positional area, and the decision to keep him appears a sensible one.

In other news, one Celtic midfielder has been linked with a move to mainland Europe.

Em 2014, Queiroz chegou a ser inscrito por Muricy Ramalho na Copa Sul-Americana, em que o time foi eliminado na semifinal, mas nunca estreou no profissional. No sub-20, foi campeão da Copa Ouro, da Copa do Brasil e da Copa RS em 2015 e da Libertadores em 2016.

O Tricolor já acertou os empréstimos do goleiro Léo ao Paraná Clube, do lateral-direito Auro ao América-MG, do zagueiro Iago Maidana ao São Bernardo, do volante Banguelê e do zagueiro Tormena ao Novorizontino, dos laterais-esquerdos Matheus Reis ao Bahia, Reinaldo à Chapecoense e Carlinhos ao Internacional, do atacante Ytalo ao Osasco Audax, do centroavante Gabriel Rodrigues ao Ventforet Kofu (JAP). O meia Daniel deve ir ao Coritiba.

Writing on Twitter, Sky Sports reporter Lyall Thomas has shared news coming out of Tottenham Hotspur involving Norwich City star Max Aarons.

Alongside problem positions like centre-half, Spurs have also been touted to move for a new right-back this summer if defender Serge Aurier leaves north London.

Reliable correspondent Alasdair Gold recently explained that Tottenham ‘will’ target a full-back replacement for the Ivorian if he does indeed depart (football.london), with a few names already linked.

Spurs have been touted with possible moves for Brighton starlet Tariq Lamptey (Sky Sports) and Turkey international defender Zeki Celik recently (Evening Standard).

By comparison, the Canaries are said to value Aarons in the region of £30m.

The Verdict: Do it Paratici…

Club managing director Fabio Paratici, who has now been charged with developing the club’s sporting operations, simply must target Aarons if Aurier does leave this summer.

He played a key role under Daniel Farke, helping Norwich bounce straight back to the Premier League whilst starting 45 Championship matches and providing a real threat going forward.

The youngster even averaged the same amount of key passes per 90 at Carrow Road last season (1.4) as superstar Harry Kane did in the Premier League (WhoScored).

At £30m compared to Lamptey’s possible £50m tag, it’s clear who the better option would be for Tottenham.

تم تعليق المباراة في 5 سبتمبر في سان بابلو، بعد خمس دقائق من خوضها، عندما دخلت السلطات الصحية البرازيلية الملعب للاعتراض على مشاركة أربعة لاعبين من الأرجنتين متهمين بعدم الامتثال للوائح الحالية في البرازيل، بسبب وباء كورونا.

وبحسب ما أوردته الفيفا، من المقرر أن تقام مباراة البرازيل والأرجنتين يوم 22 سبتمبر في البرازيل.

وقال البيان: “نشير إلى قرار لجنة الانضباط في الفيفا في 14 فبراير 2022 بشأن المباراة الموقوفة بين البرازيل والأرجنتين في 5 سبتمبر 2021، والتي سيتعين إعادة لعبها لإغلاق دورة التصفيات نهائيًا، أمريكا الجنوبية”.

ويضيف: “نود إبلاغكم أن المباراة ستقام في البرازيل في 22 سبتمبر 2022، لذلك، دعا الفيفا الاتحاد البرازيلي لإبلاغ التفاصيل المؤكدة للمباراة (المكان والملعب والوقت) 22 يونيو على أبعد تقدير وفقا للمادة 21”.

علاوة على ذلك، لم يصدر الحكم بشأن الاستئناف الذي قدمه محامو الاتحاد الأرجنتيني لكرة القدم.
