New Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard could get Villa Park rocking again by signing Rangers star Ryan Kent in the upcoming transfer window.

What’s the story?

The former Liverpool skipper made the switch from Ibrox earlier this month, and attentions naturally have already turned towards who Gerrard could look to lure away from his previous employers.

And, according to transfer insider Dean Jones, those north of the border at Rangers expect two players, in particular, to be touted with a switch to Villa.

He said: “Rangers think Glen Kamara will be linked very quickly. I think Ryan Kent as well is somebody that they’ll be expecting Villa to be linked with. So, we’ll have to wait and see on those two.”

Kent enjoyed an impressive campaign with Rangers last term, scoring 13 goals and setting up another 15, and has enjoyed a reasonable start to the current one too, providing five assists in just 11 games in all competitions.

Former Rangers star Kris Boyd has previously waxed lyrical about the former Liverpool man, saying: “There’s Ryan Kent who is phenomenal – he gets you off your seat. His numbers have increased season after season. Even if the team are not at the level we saw at the start of the campaign, he is still a threat. He is so comfortable with the ball – it is like has superglue in his boots!”

The £20k-a-week winger has earned rave reviews for his performances, not least from teammate Conor Goldson, who hailed him as “magnificent” and said: “He has got a lot of ability. (He is) 24-years-old, two-footed. It is not nice when he runs at you, I can tell you that personally from training. He has got everything.”

The £12.6m-rated flier seems to be the kind of direct, quick winger who Villa already boast in Leon Bailey, and the thought of the two of them lining up in the same team would be sure to terrify opposition defences.

Given the real lack of excitement at Villa Park this season amid a difficult run of form in the Premier League, the signing of someone like Kent who as Boyd says, “gets you off your seat”, would go a decent way to sparking a fire in the team.

And, with Anwar El Ghazi being linked with an exit, the Dutchman leaving and Kent arriving would be an exciting switch-up in players.

After winning three of their four previous Premier League games prior to their international break, Southampton have a great chance to get back to where they left off with a match against Norwich City, who have only won one game in the league this season, next up for Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side at the weekend.

Looking ahead to the match at Carrow Road, it seems as though the Saints have been handed a major squad boost just in time for the clash against the Canaries that will surely have a lot of Southampton fans buzzing given the various player’s importance to the squad.

What’s the news?

It has recently been reported by Hampshire Live that Valentino Livramento, Armando Broja, and Nathan Redmond have all returned to training after previously being doubts to feature in the match.

Presuming that all three will be fit enough for selection by Saturday, this will be a big boost for Hasenhuttl when it comes to choosing his starting XI to take on Dean Smith’s side.

With Livramento, who dropped out of the England U21 squad last week through injury, the fact that he has played 90 minutes in all but one of Southampton’s league games so far this season with one goal and one assist under his belt shows just how important he has been for the team and suggests that he will be in the starting XI at the weekend if he’s fit.

Even though Broja, who has struggled with an ankle injury in recent weeks, managed to score his first two goals for the Saints in their games against Leeds United and Burnley back in October, the fact that Che Adams and Adam Armstrong have both found the back of the net since then could give Hasenhuttl a tough decision over who he plays up front against Norwich. That would hand the manager a rare selection dilemma, but one he’ll be delighted to have.

Then with Redmond, who missed Southampton’s 1-0 win over Aston Villa after testing positive for the pandemic, even though he’s yet to score in the league this season, the fact that he has provided two assists and started seven of their 11 league games shows that he is an important figure for Hasenhuttl.

Taking all of this into account, only time will tell if the trio will all start against Norwich or not, but Hasenhuttl will definitely be glad to have them back in training rather than out on the sidelines to give him more options across the pitch.

أعلن نادي آرسنال الإنجليزي في بيان رسمي، قبل قليل، عن إعارته للاعبه إينسلي مايتلاند نيلز، قبل أقل من ساعة واحدة على نهاية نافذة الانتقالات الصيفية.

وكان مايتلاند قد قضى النصف الثاني من موسم 2021/22 الماضي مُعارًا، وذلك بعد خروجه من حسابات ميكيل أرتيتا، ولعب مع نادي إي سي روما الإيطالي، الذي فاز معه بدوري المؤتمر الأوروبي.

وقال آرسنال في بيانه: “لقد توصلنا إلى اتفاق مع ساوثهامبتون لإعارة إينسلي مايتلاند نيلز إلى ناديهم لمدة موسم واحد”.

Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar has been pardoned by the PCB after appearing on a television talk show during which he criticised the board’s management. Shoaib had breached the terms of his central contract when, during the course of the programme, he said he had considered suing the board for releasing a confidential medical report on the skin ailment that forced him to miss the World Twenty20 in May.Under the terms of his central contract, Shoaib was not allowed to give interviews without the PCB’s permission or to criticise the team management. The board issued a show cause notice soon after and ordered Shoaib to explain himself. However, he sent an apology to the PCB, which was satisfied with the response.”We don’t want to further continue this matter as Shoaib has apologised for his mistake,” Ijaz Butt, the PCB chairman, told Pakistan channel . “It was very nice of Shoaib to acknowledge his mistake and the matter is closed now.”It isn’t the first time, of course, that Shoaib has been pulled up over such scraps. In April 2008, he was banned by the PCB for five years after lashing out at the administration on being denied a central contract. The ban was later reduced to 18 months by a PCB-appointed appellate tribunal, though he was also handed a fine of Rs 7 million (around US $84,000). The ban was temporarily suspended when he appealed to the Lahore High Court, and the case resumed in court on Monday.Shoaib, 34, has played 46 Tests and 144 ODIs for Pakistan and last featured in a one-dayer against Australia on May 3 this year in Abu Dhabi. Manchester United may miss out on the chance of signing Leeds United star Kalvin Phillips, according to a fresh report that has emerged.

The Lowdown: Phillips excels for Leeds

The midfielder has been a huge player for the Whites during the Marcelo Bielsa era – he has made 223 appearances for the club in total – also becoming a key member of the England team.

Phillips is England’s reigning Player of the Year, and while he appears content at Leeds currently, his head could be turned next summer.

United have been linked with a move for the 25-year-old in the past but a new report suggests that may not materialise.

According to The Daily Star, Phillips will snub a move to Old Trafford because of Leeds’ longstanding rivalry with United, perhaps fearing a backlash from supporters.

The Verdict: Midfield addition needed

With Ralf Rangnick now in charge of United, the hope is that they will show huge improvements, with the squad filled with quality all over the pitch.

One area that is lacking is defensive midfield, however, so Phillips could be an ideal signing if the current situation was to change.

The Leeds hero has averaged 2.6 tackles per game in the Premier League, which is more than any United midfielder, with Fred top of the list with 2.2.
