Moukoko left Dortmund to join CopenhagenOpens up on 'difficult' period on loan at NiceForward defended himself from criticism Follow GOAL on WhatsApp! 🟢📱WHAT HAPPENED?

The striker recently completed a transfer to Copenhagen, surprising many fans due to the buzz that surrounded him throughout his time in the Dortmund youth system. He made his debut for the German side the day after his 16th birthday to become the youngest in the league's history. A few weeks later, he broke the record for the youngest ever to play in a Champions League game. Despite scoring five goals in 20 Bundesliga appearances – four starts – in 2023-24, the club opted to send him out on loan last season.

The 20-year-old spent the campaign at Nice, but started just two of his 11 appearances in Ligue 1 and did not feature for the team after a Coupe de France game in early February. A player once tipped to reach great heights, Moukoko says he has gone through many highs and lows as he opened up on his trying time.

WHAT MOUKOKO SAID?

Moukoko told Danish broadcaster : "I've experienced what it's like to be at the top. I've also experienced what it's like to be at the bottom."

Asked about his time on loan at Nice, he said: "It was really tough. There were nights when I just lay awake thinking about it, I have to be honest. But it taught me to be humble, to keep my feet on the ground and not to be arrogant.

"I think it made sense for me to go through that. There were a lot of critical stories about me. In Nice, they wrote that I was out of shape. But I trained harder than ever before. I trained three times a day on my own and discovered a new motivation within myself.

"I don't care what people say or write about me. Whatever it is, I just laugh about it. I trust myself and my body. I feel that I really want to play again."

According to the report, the ex-Brighton man held talks with Fenerbahce manager Mourinho, who was able to convince the player to join him in Turkey after explaining his vision and project. Despite earlier reports that Trossard was happy at the Emirates Stadium, he is ready to begin a new chapter after talks over a renewal with the north London outfit reached an impasse. Arsenal will accept an offer worth €20 million (£17m/$23.5m), with just one year left on Trossard's contract.

Trossard's potential exit from the Emirates Stadium coincides with Arsenal's plan to oversee a major overhaul in attack. Mendis replaces Shanaka as Sri Lanka's ODI captain; Hasaranga to lead in T20Is

With Karunaratne leading the Test side, this is the first time Sri Lanka have three different captains

Madushka Balasuriya30-Dec-2023Dasun Shanaka’s reign as Sri Lanka’s white-ball captain has come to an end as Sri Lanka’s new selection committee appointed Kusal Mendis and Wanindu Hasaranga to lead the ODI and T20I sides, respectively. With Dimuth Karunaratne currently leading the Test side, this is the first time Sri Lanka have three different captains in the three formats.Shanaka first captained Sri Lanka in 2019, on the team’s first tour to Pakistan since the 2009 Lahore attack, but it was not until 2021 that he became their regular captain. Under him, Sri Lanka won 23 out of 41 ODIs and 22 out of 48 T20Is. The highlight of his tenure was the 2022 T20 Asia Cup victory in the UAE where Sri Lanka beat Pakistan in the final. Also notable were ODI series wins against South Africa and Australia, and a T20I series win against India, all at home. Shanaka also oversaw Sri Lanka’s unbeaten run through the 2023 World Cup Qualifier. But all these achievements were interspersed with poor showings in the 2021 and 2022 T20 World Cups as well as the 2023 ODI World Cup.However, it was his poor form with the bat, primarily in ODIs, that put him under the most scrutiny and made people question his place in the side. As such, it was widely expected that the new selection committee would look elsewhere in terms of the captaincy. His replacements, Mendis and Hasaranga, both have recent experience in leadership roles. Mendis is a former Under-19 captain and the current skipper of Dambulla Aura in the LPL. Midway through the 2023 ODI World Cup, he took over the reins from Shanaka when the latter got injured. Hasaranga, who is currently recovering from a hamstring surgery, had earlier this year led B-Love Kandy to their inaugural LPL title.Shanaka may still play a role in Sri Lanka’s white-ball set-ups after he was named in the preliminary squads for the limited-overs series against Zimbabwe at home in January.

Why Arsenal's big-money move for Viktor Gyokeres remains at an impasse with Gunners at transfer loggerheads with Sporting

Arsenal are yet to seal a move for Viktor Gyokeres despite closing in on a deal that could be worth around £69 million ($93m). Gyokeres is determined to leave Sporting CP this summer as he wants a move to the Premier League ahead of the 2025-26 campaign and as a result he did not even turn up for the club's pre-season preparations and instead stayed back in his homeland.

  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Arsenal and Sporting are still negotiating the payment structure of the add-ons of the transfer as the Portuguese club are demanding €2.5m for Gyokeres' first 20 appearances in north London and then an additional €2.5m for the next 20. They also want a further €2.5m should the Gunners qualify for the Champions League, and finally another €2.5m for 20 appearances the following season. The Premier League giants, on the other hand, want €2.5m of the total to be more difficult to achieve.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

According to the , on Friday, no solution could be found to the transfer impasse as the clubs remained firm on their demands. reported earlier this week that a removal van was spotted at Gyokeres’ luxury home in Lisbon. Various pieces of furniture were seen being moved out of that property, potentially with north London being their next port of call.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

further reported: "The English side haven’t shown any signs of life. With the deal at an impasse, it is hoped that Arsenal will be able to contact the Lions again. Besides the bonus issue, there are other matters to be resolved, namely the payment deadline and the solidarity mechanism, commonly known as the training rights that must be paid to the clubs where the player played as a youngster. In this aspect, the mechanism is usually assumed by the club that receives the transfer fee, but in this case, Sporting intend to split that responsibility 50/50. Arsenal intends to extend the payment deadline by four times; the Lions want it faster, in two lots."

Hawk-Eye apologises to PCB over Rossouw lbw error

Hawk-Eye has apologised to the PCB in a letter after acknowledging an error made during Islamabad United’s three-wicket loss to Quetta Gladiators on Thursday, ESPNcricinfo understands. The incident occurred during the 11th over of the Gladiators’ innings. Off the final delivery of the over, Gladiators captain Rilee Rossouw moved across and attempted to sweep Salman Ali Agha but missed, with the ball hitting his front pad. Aleem Dar upheld an enthused appeal from the fielding side, and Gladiators promptly reviewed it.Hawk-Eye eventually determined not only that the ball had hit the left-hander outside the line of the stumps, but that it would also have gone on to miss off stump. When it was shown on the big screen, both the fielding side and umpire Dar looked visibly surprised, because the slow-motion replay appeared to show the ball straightening instead of gripping and turning. Static images of the impact on the pad also suggested a potential disparity between where the ball had hit Rossouw, and where the ball Hawk-Eye was tracking declared it to be hitting, with the former much more plausibly in line with the stumps. The letter addressed to the PCB Chief Operating Officer Salman Naseer and the Production Department, accepts that ball tracking for the delivery in question did not reflect the path of the actual delivery that had been sent up for review. It is not yet clear what caused the error. After the game, during an on-screen interview, Shadab Khan, the captain of Islamabad, made little attempt to conceal his frustrations.”I think technology made a mistake,” he said. “The ball-tracking showed a different delivery, and it was a match-changing moment. These sorts of things should be sorted out properly in such a big tournament. These mistakes should not happen. I bowled four overs here as a legspinner, and I don’t think the ball was spinning here. And they showed Agha [Salman]’s delivery hitting outside off stump and spinning away. I don’t buy that.”Compounding Shadab’s frustration was how delicately the match was poised. The Gladiators were building up a partnership after the loss of four early wickets, with Sherfane Rutherford and Rossouw rebuilding. The Gladiators were 82 for 4 with nine overs to go and needed a further 57 to win. What made them particularly vulnerable was a long tail, with United believing they could crack the game open with a breakthrough there. As things panned out, the duo put on a partnership that put the game out of United’s reach. They put together 62 for the 5th wicket, with Rossouw unbeaten on 34 right to the end.

He was cleared of any major damage after undergoing a precautionary scan, which revealed “acute inflammatory signs around his patella tendon”.”It’s really just low-grade wear and tear in his knee,” Victoria coach Chris Rogers said on commentary of the Shield match. “It’s nothing too serious.”But Boland didn’t bowl any of the 20 overs as South Australia went to stumps on day two at 66 for 2, trailing Victoria by 49.Victoria took a 115-run first-innings lead after former Test batter Maddinson smashed a century in his first Shield match since rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament in a BBL game on New Year’s Day 2023.Maddinson struggled for form during his return to cricket in the BBL for Melbourne Renegades, but was back to his best in the longer form of the game.
