WHAT HAPPENED?
Quenda has impressed over the last season-and-a-half with Sporting CP, with the 17-year-old winger played a major role in the Portuguese side's recent success having emerged under former boss Ruben Amorim. The teenager has been on the transfer shortlists of multiple clubs, including Amorim's new side Manchester United. However, it is the Blues who have struck a deal to sign Quenda in the summer.

THE BIGGER PICTURE
As per transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea conducted a 'secret blitz' at Sporting to sign Quenda before the summer window even opens, as they wanted to avoid any chances of competing clubs snatching the 17-year-old away from them. The Portuguese winger has already completed his medical and an announcement could be made soon.

As Portuguese outlet reported in February, United were very keen on signing Quenda in the summer and even sent scouts to watch the teenager. The Red Devils were said to have been tracking Quenda even before Amorim was named the club's head coach in November.
WHAT NEXT FOR QUENDA?
Should Quenda indeed move to Chelsea, he will face stiff competition for a place on his favoured right wing, with Estevao Willian also arriving this summer. Noni Madueke, Pedro Neto and Cole Palmer have all played in that position this season.
Newcastle have been plagued by inconsistencyTop-four finish might be a challengeYet the Magpies will not sell their star playersFollow GOAL on WhatsApp! 🟢📱WHAT HAPPENED?
The Magpies’ recent poor run of form in the Premier League – losing three of their last four matches – has seen them slip out of the top five, putting their Champions League qualification hopes in jeopardy. This has led to speculation surrounding the futures of several high-profile names, including Isak, Anthony Gordon, and Bruno Guimaraes, as reported by

Newcastle’s management is focused on keeping the core of their squad intact while making additions to strengthen the team ahead of the next campaign. Even if some players aspire to compete in the Champions League elsewhere, the club's stance is firm: those ambitions must be realised at St. James’ Park rather than elsewhere.
The drop in performance during defeats against Bournemouth, Fulham, and Manchester City has raised concerns among the club hierarchy, especially in contrast to the dominant display they produced against Arsenal in their Carabao Cup semi-final triumph. Despite this inconsistency, securing a Champions League return remains a priority for both the club and its players. Manager Eddie Howe acknowledged that some members of the squad were unsettled last summer when the club was forced to sell promising talents such as Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh to balance the books. A return to Europe’s elite competition would go a long way in calming any lingering uncertainties within the squad.
DID YOU KNOW?
Despite the substantial investment from the owners, there has been little tangible progress on major infrastructure projects such as stadium expansion or training ground upgrades. Additionally, a lack of major signings across the last three transfer windows has led to questions in the dressing room about the club’s long-term ambitions. However, with official announcements expected soon regarding these off-field projects, there is renewed optimism that the club is on the verge of an ambitious new phase.

Newcastle’s message to potential suitors is clear: they are not looking to offload their best players. Instead, the club wants Isak, Guimarães, Gordon, and others to remain part of their long-term vision, helping Newcastle push for a Champions League return, whether that be this season or in the near future. They are just a few points behind fourth-placed Manchester City and a strong run of form in the business end of the season can revive their European fortunes.
Potentially repeating their deal to sign Dominic Solanke a few months ago, Daniel Levy and Tottenham Hotspur are now reportedly ready to pay £50m to sign one Premier League winger.
Tottenham transfer news
The Lilywhites returned to winning ways in style against West Ham United, putting their disappointing capitulation against Brighton & Hove Albion before the international break behind them. Despite falling a goal behind courtesy of Mohammed Kudus’ second goal in as many games, Ange Postecoglou’s side battled back well to eventually ease past their London rivals and seal a comfortable 4-1 victory.
As if Spurs need any further attacking reinforcements after such a display of goalscoring prowess, those in North London have been linked with summer moves to add even more excitement to their frontline.
The likes of Jonathan David and Benfica winger Kerem Akturkoglu. The former could of course partner Solanke to form quite the duo under Postecoglou, particularly if the Lilywhites also add another creative outlet when 2025 arrives.
According to reports in Spain, Levy and Tottenham are now willing to pay as much as £50m to sign Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth with Spurs reportedly preparing an opening offer to sign the winger.
Antoine Semenyo for Bournemouth.
Of course, Bournemouth and Spurs should already be familiar with each other in the transfer market given that Solanke swapped the South Coast for North London just a few months ago. Now, the two clubs could renew their relationship in what could see yet another Bournemouth player become part of Postecoglou’s ongoing project.

Semenyo certainly seems to be one to watch. The winger first stole the headlines amid links to the likes of Spurs earlier this month and those rumours have only increased ever since to the point that the Lilywhites are seemingly set to step things up.
"Underrated" Semenyo could unleash Solanke
Although Solanke has shown enough glimpses of his best form to say that the goals will begin to flow in abundance sooner rather than later, the arrival of a winger he knows so well in the form of Semenyo would undoubtedly speed that process up.
Forming a solid partnership at Bournemouth last season, Solanke ended the campaign with 21 goals in all competitions, whilst Semenyo ended on eight as both earned praise around the Premier League. Analyst Ben Mattinson, one of those full of praise, spoke about the Cherries’ dangermen in the last campaign and went on to describe Semenyo as “underrated”.
Kicking on even further in the current campaign, Semenyo is now in line to follow in his former teammates’ footsteps and potentially complete a move to Spurs when 2025 arrives.

Man United players away on international duty
The Red Devils have several players away playing for their countries in this two-week international break, and they will be praying their players can return fit, firing and full of renewed confidence.
Erik ten Hag has a side full of established international players, so it isn’t any surprise to see that four of the his five new signings are away with their countries – Manuel Ugarte, Joshua Zirkzee, Matthijs De Ligt, and Noussair Mazraoui.
Meanwhile, Diogo Dalot and Bruno Fernandes have just finished their international duty with Portugal, with their pair both impressing in the last two weeks, as Dalot scored in Portugal’s win over Croatia last week and Fernandes scored in their 2-1 win over Scotland on Sunday evening.
Ten Hag will be keeping an eye on Harry Maguire and Kobbie Mainoo, who will both be looking to keep their place in England's starting XI against Finland on Tuesday night.
Lisandro Martínez and Alejandro Garnacho will be hoping to play a significant part in Argentina’s match against Columbia on Tuesday, but the United boss is likely just praying they return to Carrington on time and fit. United also have James Scanlon away on international duty with Gibraltar, and the young man will be returning to Old Trafford full of confidence.
James Scanlon scores for Gibraltar vs Liechtenstein
Scanlon, who has yet to make his senior debut for Manchester United or even permanently break into the under-21 line-up, has however burst onto the international stage with Gibraltar and is definitely catching the eye.
The 17-year-old has now earned six caps for Gibraltar's senior side, and the winger grabbed his first goal for his country by scoring against Liechtenstein on Sunday, becoming his country's youngest ever scorer and prompting one MUFC academy writer to say "this is nuts".
Scanlon, who played in United’s pre-season this summer, is remarkably already now just five goals away from becoming his country’s record goalscorer, as that currently stands at six, with Liam Walker currently leading the way.

Scanlon has been on the books at Old Trafford since joining the club from Derby County in March 2021, and since then, he has been working his way up the club’s youth teams. The 17-year-old has played 33 times for the under-18s, during which he has scored 11 goals and recorded five assists. Scanlon has also played ten times for the club’s under-21s.
The United gem was used as a right-back during pre-season, but the 17-year-old’s preferred position is more advanced, with him being a more natural winger who likes to score goals and create chances for his teammates. Scanlon is now just six games into his international career and could become the country's leading goalscorer very soon, as he needs just five goals to equal the leading tally.
Leeds United have been warned they have a promising young player on board whose agents will already be looking to secure a move away in January due to his lack of playing time.
The Yorkshire side had a very chaotic transfer window, as while they brought in several new faces, they also lost some key individuals, but that hasn’t stopped them from making a solid start to the Championship campaign.

Leeds transfer target refuses new contract
It was reported this week that one of Leeds’ new signings, Ao Tanaka, wasn’t in fact the club’s first choice to be brought in to reinforce the midfield. The Whites decided to move for the Japanese midfielder after they had missed out on other targets.

One of the players that Leeds were said to be interested in signing was FC Koln midfielder Dejan Ljubicic, with the Championship side having a bid worth £3.4 million rejected earlier in this transfer window.
It has now come to light that Ljubicic has rejected a new contract at the German side and will become a free agent nine months from now if no new deal is agreed. The 26-year-old is already up and running for FC Koln this season, and while they try and get him to sign a new contract, the player just wants to concentrate on his football, according to the club’s sporting director, Christian Keller, leaving things open for Leeds to make another attempt in 2025.
Dejan Ljubicic for FC Koln.
As Leeds may eye a deal for Ljubicic in January or possibly next summer, they may also have to face that one of their current players could be looking to leave when that transfer window arrives.
Leeds warned Gelhardt will be plotting a January exit
Former England midfielder Carlton Palmer has warned Leeds that they have a player in Joe Gelhardt whose agent may already be plotting a January transfer.
This is because the young striker has remained at Elland Road this season despite him falling down the pecking order at the club and struggling to make an impact since his move from Wigan Athletic. The 22-year-old, who is said to earn £15,000 a week at Leeds, has played 56 times for the Yorkshire side since joining in 2020, scoring just three goals, but most of his shining moments came under Marcelo Bielsa.
Joe-Gelhardt-Leeds-United
Palmer told Football League World: “I’m surprised he didn’t leave Leeds this summer. Joe Gelhardt finds himself in an unenviable position at the moment. He’s 22, and he’s getting very little game time at Leeds United. I’m surprised he didn’t leave Leeds this summer.
"There were previously last season, the likes of Ipswich Town, who were interested in him. The season before, he went on loan to Championship Sunderland, where he played 18 games and only scored three goals.
"I am surprised that him and his advisors haven’t sorted a move. He needs to play football, and he’s just not getting any game time, and the years are ticking on. I’m sure his advisors now will be looking at it saying, listen, right, if he’s not getting game time, I think by the time we get to the Championship transfer window, they’ll look to get him out, whether it’s on loan or on a permanent deal."
The Premier League is in full swing, and following a pretty poor start to their campaign, Tottenham Hotspur got things back on track with an emphatic home win over Everton.
Ange Postecoglou's side went into the game under immense pressure, but you would never have known that based on their performance, as they blew the Toffees away on Sunday.
By full-time, the North Londoners had put four past the shell-shocked Merseysiders and club captain Son Heung-min had picked up a brace to make up for his display on Monday.
However, the South Korean superstar may have to keep up his impressive form going forward, as the latest star touted for a move to N17 could provide him with some serious competition this season.
Tottenham Hotspur transfer news
According to a recent report from transfers expert Ben Jacobs, Tottenham are still in the picture as a potential destination for Bayern Munich ace Kingsley Coman this summer.
Speaking on Henry Wright TV, Jacobs revealed that the Frenchman has been internally discussed by both Spurs and their North London rivals, Arsenal. At the same time, Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona are interested as well.
The good news is that the winger is reportedly willing to lower his wage from the £278k-per-week he is currently earning, and while Jacobs makes no mention of how much the transfer may cost, reports from earlier this summer revealed that the German behemoths would be willing to let the 28-year-old leave on a season-long loan, or for a fee in the region of £34m.
Bayern's Kingsley Coman
It could be a complicated transfer to get over the line in the remaining days, but given Coman's immense ability, it is worth pursuing, especially as he could be a dream rival for Son.
How Coman compares to Son
So, the first big positive to signing Coman before the window closes is that he's a versatile player, and while his primary position is off the left of a front three, which in turn would put him up against Son for game time, he can also play off the right to an incredibly high level, and has started 118 games there in his club career thus far.
However, he'd likely be signed to mainly play in his preferred position and, therefore, challenge the Lilywhites' captain, so how do the pair stack up against one another?
Well, when it comes down to the most important metric of all for attackers, output, it's a tale of two seasons and averages.
Heung-min Son for Tottenham
For example, last season, the North Londoners' talented attacker racked up a frankly astonishing 17 goals and ten assists in just 36 appearances, equating to a goal involvement once every 1.33 games.
In contrast, the Bayern star only made 27 appearances, in which he scored five goals and provided three assists, meaning he maintained a worse but still okay average of a goal involvement every 3.37 games.

However, in the campaign prior, the "1v1 specialist", as dubbed by data analyst Ben Mattinson, scored nine goals and provided seven assists in 35 matches, meaning he averaged a goal involvement once every 2.18 games.
In comparison, the former Bayer Leverkusen star produced more goal involvements, finding the back of the net 14 times and providing six assists, but he did it in 47 appearances, equating to a worse average of a goal involvement every 2.35 games.
Now, this isn't to say that the "formidable" Frenchman, as dubbed by former coach Patrick Gonfalone, is a better player than the South Korean icon, because that probably isn't the case.
Instead, it's to demonstrate that he's capable of putting up numbers similar to the Spurs ace and, by extension, challenging him for a place in the team under Postecoglou, which should push Son to maintain his high standards even more.

ByAngus Sinclair Aug 25, 2024
Ultimately, Coman is an incredibly talented winger, and based on reports, it appears he's available for not a lot of money. Therefore, Levy and Co should do what they can to secure his signature this summer before someone else does first.
