Lynn set to miss PSL after suffering shoulder dislocation

Chris Lynn’s run of injury misfortune continued during the tri-series final at Auckland, after he suffered a dislocated right shoulder while diving in the field

ESPNcricinfo staff21-Feb-2018Chris Lynn looks set to be ruled out of the Pakistan Super League, and will return to Brisbane for further assessment, after suffering a dislocated right shoulder while diving in the field during Australia’s T20 Tri-Series final victory over New Zealand. It was another cruel stroke of injury misfortune for Lynn, who left the field midway through the ninth over of New Zealand’s innings after attempting to intercept a clip through midwicket from Ross Taylor. Sprinting to his left, he reached for the ball with his right arm, in an apparent attempt to protect his troublesome left shoulder, on which he has undergone three bouts of surgery in recent seasons. However, he appeared to jar his right arm on the turf, and it was later confirmed that he had popped the shoulder out of its socket. Although the team medical staff were able to put the joint back into place, he took no further part in the match after being sent for a scan.”Chris dislocated his right shoulder after landing awkwardly on it when fielding the ball,” said Australia’s physio, Alex Kountouris. “His shoulder was able to be put back into place at the ground and he was consequently sent for X-Rays which revealed no major bone injury.”At this stage Chris will not travel to the Pakistan Super League in Dubai. He will return to Brisbane to undergo further scans and assessment and from there we will have a better understanding of the ongoing management, along with the return-to-play timeframes.”Lynn had previously said he would avoid diving in the field in a bid to prevent any further shoulder problems.”It’s something that’s played on my mind for about four years,” he said. “Let’s go one step at a time – I want to dive, there’s no doubt about that, I want to do well and contribute. But at the moment, I don’t want to have another setback because I feel like I’m making good ground.”Lynn had been due to travel to Dubai imminently to take part in Lahore Qalandars’ first match of the Pakistan Super League, on Friday, against Multan Sultans. The Qalandars will be hoping Lynn’s injury is not serious, considering the explosive Australian was their first pick at the PSL draft.Another franchise that will be anxiously hoping for a swift recovery for Lynn is Kolkata Knight Riders. Lynn was the Knight Riders’ most expensive buy at the IPL auction last month, fetching $1.5m. The team is yet to announce its captain and Lynn was one of the names on the shortlist.

Sky Sports: Everton In Talks To Sign £20k-p/w "Diamond"

Everton are back in discussions regarding a deal for Leeds United forward Wilfried Gnonto, and a fresh report has revealed his club’s stance on allowing their prized asset to complete a late move to Merseyside.

What is the latest Gnonto transfer news?

The Toffees have already seen several approaches rejected for the left-winger, and despite The Telegraph later claiming that Premier League rivals Burnley had joined the race to secure his services, the 19-year-old has only ever had his heart set on Goodison Park.

As per Fabrizio Romano, the Italy international previously agreed personal terms with the Blues, and for a short spell, he was refusing to play in order to try and force a transfer through, with the relationship with his club being described as “completely broken”.

At Elland Road, Gnonto currently pockets £20k per week following his move last summer from FC Zurich, and having impressed during his 31 senior appearances so far, he appeared to emerge as a priority target earlier in the window for Sean Dyche.

Are Everton signing Wilfried Gnonto?

According to Sky Sports’ Transfer Centre, Everton “remain in talks” with Leeds over a deadline-day deal for Gnonto.

The Merseysiders have made the attacker “one of their primary targets” for the remainder of the window and have “not given up” on getting him over the line before the end of play tonight.

The Whites star previously handed in a transfer request expressing his desire to leave, but as it stands, Daniel Farke’s side are certain that he is “not for sale”.

How many goals has Wilfried Gnonto scored?

During his time at Leeds, Gnonto has racked up nine contributions (five goals and four assists) in 31 outings at first-team level, which shows how much of a positive impact he can have in the final third – and even though the ball might not be regularly hitting the back of the net, he poses a constant threat to an opposition's backline.

The Verbania native, who is sponsored by Puma, has so far recorded six shots this season, which is the joint-second-highest in the squad, (via FBRef).

He also loves to take on his marker as he currently averages 2.5 dribbles per game in the second tier – a joint-high alongside Luis Sinisterra.

Farke’s “diamond”, as labelled by football talent scout Jacek Kulig, is also a versatile operator having been deployed in seven different positions since the start of his career, including everywhere across the frontline and three roles in the midfield, so he could be a great option for the boss to have at his disposal if any areas needed covering due to unexpected injuries.

The West Yorkshire outfit are in a strong negotiating position when it comes to Gnonto due to him having another four years remaining on his contract, but with Alex Iwobi set to travel to Craven Cottage to undergo a medical ahead of his proposed £22m move to Fulham, Everton should have sufficient funds to put towards signing his replacement.

The secretaries of both the Baroda Cricket Association and the Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association – Snehal Parikh and Milind Kanmadikar respectively – confirmed that the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association had approached the BCCI to move the matches out of Chennai following which the venues were changed.Tamil Nadu have already had one rain-affected game, against Tripura, and possibly didn’t want to risk their prospects of qualifying for the knockouts. With three games left, Tamil Nadu are fourth on the Group C standings, behind Andhra, Madhya Pradesh and Mumbai, and are still in search of their first outright win. Tamil Nadu’s immediate challenge will be their game against Odisha in Cuttack from November 9.Test players to skip but Iyer, Pandey, Rahul join squadsThe forthcoming round of the Ranji Trophy beginning on November 9 is expected to be low on star quotient with most of the India internationals away on national duty. With India’s first Test against Sri Lanka beginning in Kolkata on November 16, R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Shami and Umesh Yadav are set to join the national side. Delhi, too, will miss the services of captain Ishant Sharma. Rishabh Pant will lead the side in his stead. Wagner and Craig set up Otago victory

The two New Zealand internationals bagged 11 wickets between them to secure 17 points for Otago in their season opener

ESPNcricinfo staff26-Oct-2017Fifties from openers Hamish Rutherford and Brad Wilson ensured Otago chased down 239 against Canterbury, and opened their Plunket Shield campaign with a seven-wicket victory at the Hagley Oval. The openers had added 162 runs before they were dismissed in a space of two overs on the third day, leaving the side with 47 runs to win on the final day. Captain Rob Nichol and Neil Broom – who had been left out from the New Zealand squad for the ongoing limited-overs series in India – then added 72 runs for the third wicket before Broom offered a return catch to offspinner Tim Johnston with his team four runs away from victory. Nichol and allrounder James Neesham – who had also been omitted for the India tour – then applied the finishing touches as Otago secured 17 points. The win, though, was set up by the bowlers, who dismissed Canterbury for 155 in the first innings and paved the way for a 61-run first-innings lead. Seamers Neil Wagner and Jacob Duffy made the early inroads and helped pin down Canterbury to 57 for 5. Michael Pollard’s 54 and contributions from the lower order then dragged the side past 150. Duffy returned three wickets while New Zealand internationals Wagner and Mark Craig picked up two wickets each.In response, Otago were reduced to 63 for 3 at stumps on the first day. Wagner, the nightwatchman, did not last long on the second, falling for 17. But Wilson ground out a fifty – he would go onto make another in the second dig – and was complemented by Neesham (38) and Craig (46) as Otago snatched the first-innings advantage.Canterbury fared better in their second innings, with 10 of their 11 batsmen entering double figures. However, among them, only one passed fifty with Brett Hampton punching 60 off 55 balls. Wagner and Craig led Otago’s bowling again, claiming seven wickets between them to bowl their opponents out for 299.Canterbury’s left-arm wristspinner Blake Coburn – who was playing his maiden first-class game – picked up two wickets in the second innings in addition to his three in the first, but it wasn’t enough for his side.

West Ham: Hammers Submit New Offer For "Phenomenal" Star

West Ham United have reportedly made one more final offer for Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse, as they look to welcome the midfielder to the London Stadium before the start of the new season.

The Saints have set a price-tag of £40m for the midfielder, according to reports.

What's the latest on James Ward-Prowse to West Ham?

The Hammers haven't exactly had straight forward negotiations with Southampton when it comes to Ward-Prowse. And, now, they've submitted a final 'take it or leave it' offer of around £30m, according to TalkSport, who also reported that the offer will likely be rejected by Southampton, who are holding out for £40m.

With that, it looks increasingly unlikely that Ward-Prowse will be a West Ham player in the coming season, unless the Hammers return to suddenly change tact and meet Southampton's asking price.

As things stand, the Saints captain could play a part in his side's opening game of the Championship season this Friday, as they travel to Sheffield Wednesday.

It would be some turn of events if Ward-Prowse started for Southampton to start their Championship season, having been linked with a move away as soon as the Saints suffered relegation from the Premier League last season.

Should West Ham sign Ward-Prowse?

Southampton's James Ward-Prowse

After losing Declan Rice to Arsenal for a reported £105m, to say that West Ham need a midfielder would be an understatement. The Hammers certainly have the budget to welcome players, too. It's just about spending that budget wisely.

Signing Ward-Prowse would be an ideal way to finally get their spending underway, too, even at the £40m mark. The England midfielder offers an unmatched threat from set pieces, as well as possessing traits similar to Rice when on the ball.

According to FBref, last season, Ward-Prowse completed around one less pass than Rice per 90, with 4.55 of those passes being progressive, which again fell just one short of Rice's tally. So, whilst West Ham have lost arguably their best player, if they meet Southampton's asking price they'll have themselves an ideal replacement who's really not far behind in terms of on-ball quality.

Ward-Prowse has attracted plenty of praise over the years, too, including from former teammate Charlie Austin, who told TalkSport: "He's come through the academy there and has been there for so many years. I just think that it hasn't been the right opportunity. I think now is the time for him to move.

"His set-pieces and that are brilliant. He's probably going to beat David Beckham's record but, the nuts and bolts of his game, running hard, winning the ball back, and leading his team are phenomenal."

As things stand, it looks unlikely that we'll see Ward-Prowse in West Ham colours in the coming season, but one thing that is a certainty is that the midfielder is a Premier League-level player.

If it's not West Ham, then another club could yet make their move for the Saints captain. On set pieces, alone, the threat that Ward-Prowse offers could prove to be an incredible asset for several top sides.

As the summer transfer window continues, Ward-Prowse is certainly a player to keep an eye on when it comes to his next move.

Aston Villa: Monchi Could Sign Biggest Coup Yet In £40m-rated "Genius"

Aston Villa are reportedly remaining on the tail of Joao Felix, as Unai Emery aims to up the quality on show at Villa Park.

This summer has been an impressive one so far for the Villans, who have secured the signatures of Youri Tielemans and Pau Torres, with Moussa Diaby reported to be on the horizon too.

Monchi and Emery could create something special in the Midlands this window, with links to players in the calibre of Felix showing the ambition of the duo at the helm.

Could Aston Villa sign Joao Felix?

Last week, reports claimed that Villa were ‘leading the race’ to sign the Portuguese gem, who spent last season on loan at Chelsea.

A report from transfer insider Dean Jones and GIVEMESPORT named the 23-year-old as one of those that could be ‘on the shopping list’ of the Midlands club, who could be priced around the £80m mark by Atletico Madrid.

The swoop for the talent would be an audacious one, however with Diaby almost secured according to Fabrizio Romano, the Villans are showing real ambition this summer.

How good is Joao Felix?

Having once been lauded as a “genius” by Roma sporting director Tiago Pinto, a figure familiar with the talents of Felix, the 23-year-old has cemented himself as one of the most talented forwards in Europe.

Snatched by Atletico in 2019, the versatile attacker wrote his name in lights in Portugal before making the move to Madrid, scoring 15 goals and registering nine assists in the Primeira Liga in the 2018/19 campaign at just 18-years-old.

Earning a £113m price tag as a teenager is an indicator of the talent on show, now, Villa could equip their side with a forward as intricate as the former LaLiga sensation.

Deployed primarily as a centre-forward, the £242k-per-week Portuguese is extremely versatile in his approach to play, with the ability to occupy wide areas and roles just behind the striker.

joao-felix-premier-league-man-united-transfers

For the Villans, obtaining a player in the calibre of Felix could be fundamental to their growth under Emery, and could be a marquee signing alongside the talents of Diaby.

The Frenchman could gel perfectly with the Viseu-born gem, in the Spaniard’s free-flowing attack, as an individual who himself adds a significant threat to the front line.

Also hailed as being an “absolute nightmare” for defenders by scout Jacek Kulig, Felix is a livewire in the final third, as highlighted by his monstrous 4.40 total shots per 90 in the Premier League last season.

The £40m-rated whiz’s talents delve way beyond his short spell in the Premier League, with him showcasing his attributes with 2.21 successful take-ons and 0.86 goals and assists per 90 in the 2021/22 LaLiga campaign.

At just 23, Felix has exerted his ability in Spain and Portugal, with Villa’s interest paving the way for him to finish his story in England after half a season at Stamford Bridge.

Emery could cause significant problems for his side’s opponents in the league, in a piece of business that could elevate the calibre and direction of things at Villa.

Liverpool: Jurgen Klopp Holds Secret Talks With Levi Colwill

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has spoken with Levi Colwill over a potential move to Anfield this summer, according to journalist Felix Johnston.

How old is Levi Colwill?

The Chelsea starlet, who is still only 20 years of age, has seen his stock rise hugely over the past 12 months or so, standing out as one of the most exciting English players in the country.

Colwill was sent out on loan to Brighton last season, in order to enjoy more regular playing time, and while he couldn't always oust Lewis Dunk and Adam Webster from the starting lineup, he still made 13 starts in the Premier League overall, as well as coming on as a substitute on four occasions.

The centre-back has now returned to Chelsea and is fresh off the back of European Championshop glory with England's Under-21s, where he was named in the Team of the Tournament, along with Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones.

The Reds have been linked with a move for Colwill numerous times this summer, with the club potentially willing to break the bank for his services, seeing him as a long-term acquisition. A new update has now emerged, however, with Liverpool seemingly unpopular at Stamford Bridge right now.

levi-colwill-tottenham-hotspur-chelsea-brighton-transfer-gossip-postecoglou-toby-alderweireld

What's the latest on Levi Colwill to Liverpool?

Taking to Twitter, Johnston provided an update on Liverpool's pursuit of Colwill, claiming that Chelsea are not remotely impressed with the way it is being handled:

"Jurgen Klopp has held a phone call with Colwill directly. Chelsea are extremely angered by Brighton & Liverpool’s persistence, as they have said many times directly that Levi is not for sale. Chelsea are contemplating reporting Liverpool to the FA."

From a Liverpool perspective, it is encouraging to hear that Klopp has reportedly held talks with Colwill over a summer move to Anfield, although the hope is clearly that matters have been handled in the correct way.

It seems increasingly clear that the Reds are desperate to snap up the English star, but Chelsea see him as a massive part of their future, possibly even being captain one day and also breaking into the senior England setup.

Mauricio Pochettino will hope to convince Colwill that he should stay put, promising him regular starts in 2023/24, but the defender is a boyhood Liverpool supporter and his head could be turned by a move to Merseyside.

There is no doubt that he looks a footballer of unbelievable potential, having averaged 2.2 clearances per game for Brighton in the league last season, but also caught the eye with his class and level of calm in possession, enjoying an 88.6% pass completion rate.

His teammate on loan at Huddersfiled, Harry Toffolo, said the defender is "incredible" with "massive" potential, while Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi rates Colwill highly, too, as proven by his comments regarding him after the Seagulls' stunning 3-0 win away to Arsenal late last season.

“I think the best example of courage was Colwill in this game," he said. "We defended man-to-man and Colwill’s man was Odegaard. Colwill went 90 minutes to defend with Odegaard 80 metres from Jason Steele. This is courage."

The idea of Liverpool signing Colwill is hugely exciting, and while Klopp will hope to use his reputation as a way of getting his man, it really is hard to see Chelsea sanctioning a move.

Arsenal: Edu Eyeing "Special" Star Wanted By Barcelona

Arsenal are among a large contingent of sides to have shown an interest in Red Bull Salzburg midfielder Oscar Gloukh, according to reports.

Who are Arsenal signing this summer?

The north Londoners have been making serious moves this summer, having finally agreed a deal to sign West Ham United star Declan Rice for £105 million (£100 million + £5m million in add-ons).

An agreement on price was actually reached last week, but much of the talks since then have centered around payment structure. However, it is now believed a compromise has been settled there, with Arsenal agreeing to pay the initial £100 million over a 24-month period.

Ajax defender Jurrien Timber, who dazzled in the Eredivisie last season, could also be closing in on a move to north London with reports suggesting talks are at a very advanced stage for the Dutchman and he's keen on the transfer.

If all goes to plan, the aforementioned duo will follow Germany international Kai Havertz through the door, with Arsenal recently confirming his £65 million move from Chelsea.

"Kai is a player of top quality," said Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta.

"He has great versatility and is an intelligent player. He will bring a huge amount of extra strength to our midfield and variety to our play.

“We welcome Kai and his family to Arsenal Football Club and we are all excited to start working with him when we start pre-season training soon.”

The Gunners could end up spending over £250m this window, according to some reports, but they have no intention of stopping after sealing their top target in Rice.

A new report by The Guardian and journalist Ed Aarons details a new target for Arsenal, as they join the race to sign highly-rated attacker Gloukh.

Oscar Gloukh scoring

The Israel Under-21 international performances for club and country have alerted some of Europe's top sides, including Barcelona, and there is a large domestic following from the British Isles.

Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham are all targeting the 19-year-old, who is believed to prefer a move to either England or Spain.

Who is Oscar Gloukh?

Earning an array of caps for Israel at senior level also, Gloukh has been attracting more attention lately with some of his outings at this summer's U21 European Championship.

Former Israel international Gil Vermouth recently professed his admiration for the teenage star, calling him a "special" player with lots of potential.

"I would have told him not to leave Maccabi Tel Aviv," he said last year.

"Do another season and then leave. Now, I would recommend he leave.

"If a club signs him and invests in him and takes him on as a project, then there is a chance of success. Gloukh is something special. He needs to examine his options, sit down with his parents and coaches, and decide."

Former Spurs defender Alan Hutton has also called Gloukh a "really talented" football player, with all the indications suggesting he could be one of Europe's most promising young teenage talents.

TNCA 'confident' of hosting fifth Test

The fifth Test between India and England is likely to go ahead as scheduled in spite of Mumbai’s Brabourne Stadium having been placed on standby. The Tamil Nadu Cricket Association confirmed that cyclone Vardah, which swept through Chennai on Monday, damaged some stadium property but did not unduly affect the pitch and outfield at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. Both teams’ training schedules for Wednesday were, however, cancelled as the ground was unfit. The Test match is scheduled to begin on Friday.”Both teams have been informed about this and they have agreed,” Kasi Viswanathan, the secretary of the TNCA, told The Hindu. The pitch, the paper noted, was left dry as the covers, tied to iron poles stayed intact despite gusts of up to 100mph on Monday. Although there were wet patches across the outfield, Viswanathan was confident that the drainage system at the ground was capable of clearing the wet surface quickly.”There is a lot of work to be done, but we are taking it up on a war footing. We are confident the match will start on time,” Viswanathan said.”The assuring part is that the pitch and the outfield has not been affected by the cyclone,” he told . “But sightscreen has been damaged. The bulbs have blown off, air conditioners damaged.”There have been hundreds of tree trunks lying in the road leading up to the stadium. Our challenge is to set everything in order in the next two days. I am confident we will be able to set everything right.”Viswanathan also confirmed that the three stands of the stadium that have been locked by the Chennai Corporation for the last four years over a dispute with the TNCA would remain closed during the Test match. Both teams flew into Chennai on Tuesday, as per schedule, despite the airport having been closed until 9pm on Monday evening. They flew over miles of flooded agricultural land, and arrived in a city that was still experiencing power cuts and flooding in low-lying areas.
