Man United "Very Aggressive" in Hojlund Pursuit

Manchester United are expected to make an improved "new attack" in the deal for Rasmus Hojlund by the end of this week as they look to fend off interest from Paris Saint-Germain and finalise a transfer, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Is Hojlund joining Man United?

As another week draws to a close in the transfer market, Man United supporters are still waiting to celebrate the arrival of a new number nine. They know it will almost certainly be Hojlund, but the Red Devils are yet to reach an agreement with Atalanta for the young striker.

Man United have already submitted a proposal to La Dea totalling €50m (£43m) plus €10m (£8.5m) in add-ons but Atalanta have always wanted a larger fee, claimed by Romano to be around €70m.

It's believed that personal terms have been agreed between Man United and Hojlund and the striker is incredibly keen on a dream move to Old Trafford following a wonderful breakout season in Serie A.

However, news that PSG have submitted their first proposal will have Erik ten Hag sweating slightly. While their opening bid of €50m is less than Man United's bid and below Atalanta's asking price, the French champions are not averse to splashing big sums on new signings and blowing the competition out of the water.

As a result of PSG's interest, Man United are looking to make a fresh approach for Hojlund and, according to transfer expert Romano, will unleash a "new attack" on the deal that will see an improved offer submitted.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano stated:

"Keep an eye on Rasmus Hojlund in these final days of the week, in these final crucial days of the week, because after the bid of €50m plus €10m in add-ons submitted few days ago, verifiable bid from Manchester United, Man United by the end of the week, could be today, could be Saturday, but Man United are preparing a new attack for the Rasmus Hojlund deal.

"New round of talks but Man United are very, very aggressive, let me say, in this negotiation now. They know that PSG sent a bid to Atalanta, but they also know that the player wants to go to Man United, and that now it's time to attack the situation again and try to reach an agreement with Atalanta.

"So, Man United feel they have a match point in the Hojlund story. This is a crucial moment. We expect Man United to improve their bid and to try to reach final agreement with Atalanta as soon as possible, but these final days of the week are going to be crucial.

"United are optimistic. United have an agreement with the player. Hojlund wants to go to Man United. So, it's true that PSG sent a bid, but Hojlund is obsessed with United."

Hojlund's willingness to join Man United over PSG means that, once a fee has been agreed with Atalanta, the transfer should be fairly straightforward and the French side's attempts to hijack a deal will likely be unsuccessful.

The 20-year-old netted nine goals and registered four assists in Serie A last season following his move from Sturm Graz, and has also scored six in six for Denmark. The quick, physical 6ft2 centre-forward looks a promising addition to the Premier League and Ten Hag will want him at Old Trafford as soon as possible to get him up to speed.

When do Man United play next?

Having been busy on the pitch in pre-season so far, the Red Devils are certainly not short of match fitness having played five friendlies already this summer.

Having beaten rivals Leeds United and Arsenal 2-0 each, with a 1-0 victory over Lyon sandwiched in between, the Red Devils have now suffered two straight defeats.

The first, a 3-1 defeat to League Two side Wrexham, could be excused by the fact that the Man United side was almost entirely made up of youth team players. The second, a 2-0 defeat against Real Madrid, was less excusable, conceding goals to former transfer target Jude Bellingham and former Stoke City striker Joselu.

Luckily, Ten Hag has three more pre-season matches to put things right. Borussia Dortmund are the Red Devils' next opponent in the early hours of Monday 31 July.

Man United then return to home soil to face RC Lens at Old Trafford, before finishing with a trip to Ireland to face Athletic Bilbao on 6 August, just a day after their clash with the French side.

Will Sutherland chooses cricket over AFL

The 17-year-old Sutherland has chosen to accept the offer of a multi-year rookie deal with Victoria rather than nominating for the AFL draft

Daniel Brettig16-Jul-2017Will Sutherland, son of Cricket Australia’s chief executive James Sutherland and one of the most talented young athletes in the country, has revealed his decision to choose cricket over football.Having led Australia at Under-19 level but also been among the most closely watched AFL players at junior level, 17-year-old Sutherland has chosen to accept the offer of a multi-year rookie deal with Victoria rather than nominating for the AFL draft.”This was an incredibly tough decision,” Sutherland said. “Most of the advice that I received was to just follow my passion. That sounds easy enough, but not so much when my passion is for both sports.”I really loved my experience in the recent Under-18 National Championships when representing Vic Metro and this only made the decision more difficult. When it came down to it, my love and passion for the game of cricket just won out.”I’ve thoroughly enjoyed representing my state and country in the under-age ranks and the prospect of potentially being able to continue this at the senior level is very much my dream. I’m excited and relieved about this decision and will now look to focus on completing my Year 12 studies.”A powerful batsman and strong fast-medium bowler, Sutherland had been openly courted by the AFL amid expectations that he could be a top 10 draft pick. Details of Sutherland’s contract with the Bushrangers will not be finalised until an MoU is agreed between CA and the Australian Cricketers Association.”We’re pleased Will has made this decision and we look forward to supporting him through the rest of his Year 12 studies and his Cricket Pathway,” Cricket Victoria’s general manager Shaun Graf said.”The full Cricket Victoria squad lists for the upcoming 2017-18 season will be announced following the resolution of an MoU.”

Sky Sports Reporter Shares Transfer "Noises" Out Of Southampton

Southampton are set to demand "£50m plus" for midfielder Romeo Lavia this summer amid heavy interest from Premier League clubs in his services, according to Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth.

How much will Romeo Lavia cost interested suitors?

£50 million is the figure that Southampton are 'holding out' for before considering sanctioning a departure for Lavia from St Mary's Stadium this summer amid interest from Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Barcelona in his services, according to Football Insider.

The outlet claim that Liverpool are frontrunners to bring in the Belgium international and indicate that a move to Anfield would be his preference ahead of other options on the table.

Manchester City, Manchester United and Newcastle United are asking to be kept informed on Lavia's situation as speculation surrounding the 19-year-old's future ramps up, according to 90min.

Earlier this year, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano took to Twitter to confirm that Lavia's former club Manchester City have a buyback clause for the youngster at the £40 million mark that activates in 2024, stating: "Romeo Lavia will be one to watch in the summer. Man City £40m buy back clause, valid in 2024. Chelsea [wanted him last summer] and Arsenal [still keen on Caicedo too] among clubs interested – Southampton hope to keep him."

Contractually, Lavia is tied to Southampton until the summer of 2027 and earns £25,000 per week on the South Coast, as per Capology.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Sky Sports journalist Sheth has belief that Southampton will hold out for a minimum of £50 million for midfield talent Lavia.

Sheth said: “Southampton, even though they’ve gone down to the Championship they know what they’ve got in Romeo Lavia and all the noises are suggesting that it’s going to be £50m plus to prise him away from St Mary's.

"So maybe one that goes later in the window once a number of clubs have got all of their positions sorted, and then they’ll have a look whether they can actually realistically do a deal for someone like Lavia. I think that might happen later in the window.”

Will Romeo Lavia leave Southampton?

It's looking very likely that Lavia will leave Southampton at this point due to their relegation to the Sky Bet Championship; however, they should be very well compensated for the Belgium international if he finalises a move elsewhere between now and the close of play.

The former Manchester City star had a promising campaign last term, registering one goal and a solitary assist in 34 appearances across all competitions, as per Transfermarkt.

Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia.

Lavia also showed his penchant for getting stuck into tackles last season and won an average of 2.1 challenges per match in the Premier League, according to WhoScored.

Driving forward from the middle of the park, the 19-year-old also successfully conjured up 41 shot-creating actions, demonstrating that he can also help to fashion chances for his side, as per FBRef.

Now, it looks like the question on everyone's lips is where will Lavia end up come the end of the transfer window, with several elite sides keen to take him on board due to his potential.

Southampton won't care about the destination too much as their sole focus will be accumulating a hefty financial reward before letting him depart St Mary's.

Arsenal Could Sign Their Own John Stones At The Emirates

Arsenal are reportedly interested in RB Leipzig defender Benjamin Henrichs, as Mikel Arteta and Edu set their sights on bolstering the squad this summer.

The Gunners have already penned a deal with Kai Havertz, and with Declan Rice set to be announced imminently, the clubs’ two former players could be planning something special at the Emirates.

Arteta’s side battled well last campaign, surpassing expectations by taking the title race to the wire, however, a lack of squad depth signalled a time for refurbishment this summer.

Signing Henrichs could be a leap in the right direction in terms of boosting the depth of the squad, in a player that shows shades of a fellow Premier League gem.

Journalist Florian Plettenberg revealed earlier this week that ‘talks’ between the German’s management and the north Londoners had taken place.

Plettenberg added that Arsenal are ‘considering’ the versatile full-back as a ‘backup target’ this summer.

Valued by Football Transfers at €9.2m (£8m), the 26-year-old could be a solid option for the Gunners to consider.

Where could Benjamin Henrichs play at Arsenal?

Hailed as a “talented” player by former Monaco vice-president Vadim Vasilyev, the 26-year-old has played at the top level for the majority of his career, working his way through the ranks at Bayer Leverkusen.

The versatile defender departed his boyhood club for Monaco in 2018, before returning to the Bundesliga with RB Leipzig, where he has cemented himself as a valued member of the squad.

In signing Henrichs, Arsenal could get their hands on a widely versatile defence-minded player, with capabilities of playing both on the right side of defence and in central midfield.

The German international has contributed to 66 career goal contributions over 327 appearances, having an eye for a pass as well as being a sturdy figure at the back.

benjamin-henrichs-arsenal-rb-leipzig-transfer-gossip-edu-arteta-white-zinchenko

Averaging three tackles and 1.44 interceptions per 90 in the Bundesliga last campaign, Henrichs has excelled defensively, as well as showing his abilities on the ball, averaging 4.48 progressive passes per 90 at right-back, via FBref.

Having a versatile full-back is something that the Premier League has become accustomed to, with Arteta reaping the benefits of having both Ben White and Oleksandr Zinchenko capable of contributing to offensive play.

Despite arriving as a side to watch last term, Arsenal still saw a gap between themselves and champions Manchester City, however, the Gunners could provide an answer to one of City’s sensations by signing Henrichs.

Lauded as a “versatile and tactical genius” by members of the media, John Stones has been a revelation under Pep Guardiola, emerging last season as having the talent to be deployed as a deep midfielder.

Averaging 1.12 tackles and 4.92 progressive passes per 90, via FBref, the Englishman showcased just how far the depth of his versatility goes, acting as the complete player for City.

Like Stones, Henrichs has the ability to venture into midfield, described by talent scout Jacek Kulig as being a player that ‘dictates tempo’ in central areas.

Averaging 3.78 passes per 90 into the final third, the 26-year-old has room to grow and flourish around the field, displaying strengths in his distribution and reading of the game.

Arteta could take another page from Guardiola’s book by signing a defensively equipped versatile player, replicating past notes that have seen the revolution of how the Spaniard orchestrates his back line.

Vijay, Kohli hundreds headline India's dominance

Scorecard and ball-by-ball details4:38

‘Kohli ran Bangladesh into the ground’

M Vijay, who was reprieved on 35, and his captain Virat Kohli punished Bangladesh with contrasting centuries, which led India to 356 for 3 on the first day in in Hyderabad. Vijay combined with Cheteshwar Pujara, who was handed a life on 11, in a 178-run partnership, before Kohli seamlessly took charge of the innings.Bangladesh captain Mushfiqur Rahim termed his side’s first bilateral international in India as a “great moment”; he might have later felt it was a wild roller-coaster ride. At the end of the day, in which Bangladesh’s fielding went from bad to worse, they were left nauseous and with a teasing thought: what might have been?Pujara and Vijay, India’s most prolific pair in Test cricket in the last decade, extended their dominance on Thursday with another century partnership, their fifth this home season and eighth overall.Kohli looked like he was on autopilot right from the moment he arrived, 30 minutes before tea. He began with two fours off his first three balls, the second of which was punched fiercely to the long-off boundary. He brought up his fifty off 70 balls at the end of the 73rd over, then brought up his next fifty off 60 balls with a signature whiplash to the midwicket boundary. Kohli now has a Test hundred against every opposition he has played against (he has not played against Pakistan and Zimbabwe).Bangladesh, though, had enjoyed the perfect start to their first bilateral international in India with fast bowler Taskin Ahmed removing KL Rahul in the first over. Rahul chased a full, wide ball – wider than a set of stumps outside off – and dragged it back onto the stumps. Taskin and Kamrul Islam Rabbi then found movement in the air and off the seam, and took regular trips past the edges. They also sent down rising short balls, which forced Vijay and Pujara to throw their gloves in front of their faces. At the end of five overs, India had only played four scoring shots. The first boundary arrived in the next over when Pujara uncharacteristically drove away from the body and sent an outside edge flying to his right of gully.Four balls later, Pujara watched a leading edge drop in front of cover. About three overs later, Kamrul drew an outside edge from Pujara, which dropped well in front of Shakib Al Hasan at first slip. Mushfiqur could possibly have caught it had he dived to his right, but he was unmoved. Then, in the 15th over, Mehedi Hasan Miraz produced an outside edge each from Pujara and Vijay, which flew to the right of Shakib at slip.1:09

When big runs were not enough

Vijay’s major reprieve came when he and Pujara found themselves at the same end. Kamrul put in the dive at square leg to create the run-out chance, and lobbed the ball back to Mehedi, the bowler. With the ball travelling slowly to him, Mehedi panicked and failed to collect the throw cleanly.India enjoyed these breaks in the field but the runs began to flow only after lunch. Vijay drove fluently through the covers and launched Shakib straight back over his head. Pujara brought out his staple shots – the bottom-handed drive and late-cut – and looked increasingly confident against the old ball on a slow track. The three spinners bowled 15 consecutive overs between them in the second session and conceded 54 runs. Overall, the second session yielded 120 runs in 31 overs. When Pujara drove Mehedi straight down the ground for four in the 51st over, he broke the record for most runs in an Indian first-class season, surpassing Chandu Borde’s tally of 1604 in 1964-65. The joy, though, was short-lived as he misread the next delivery – a straight ball from Mehedi – and edged behind, Mushfiqur diving to his right this time and pouching it via a ricochet off the pad.Kohli announced himself with authoritative boundaries, while Vijay got to his ninth Test hundred before being bowled around his legs in the sixth over after tea.Ajinkya Rahane, picked over Karun Nair, seemed comfortable while moving to 45 off 60 balls in an unbroken 122-run stand with Kohli. Bangladesh, though, were far from comfortable: the fumbles continued in the field and they even wasted a review. In the 62nd over, Taijul Isam tossed one up on middle and leg, and Kohli his forward defensive. Taijul and the close-in fielders reckoned it was pad first, only for the replays to throw up how embarrassing Bangladesh’s decision to review the on-field not-out call was. The second new ball wasn’t spared either, and Kohli went onto middle everything. He claimed 94 of the 150 runs India scored in the post-tea session.

Tottenham To Fight PSG For £64m Brazilian Winger

Tottenham Hotspur are engaged in a battle to sign Brazilian winger Pepê as they look to bolster their attacking options, according to A Bola, via Sport Witness.

What's the latest Spurs transfer news?

Spurs are targeting FC Porto star Pepê as Ange Postecoglou gets started on his business in North London. A Bola also reports that the 26-year-old has a release clause of €75m (£64m), a figure Porto are insisting interested clubs meet.

Daniel Levy and Co are said to have already made their first move by placing a bid for the Brazilian, however the figure is believed to be 'still far' from what Porto expect.

PSG are also mentioned as an interested party, however the report from A Bola states they have yet to make a move, with Pepê viewed as a Neymar replacement for Les Parisiens.

One important note however is that Porto manager Sérgio Conceição is being suggested as a potential next PSG boss, in that scenario it is likely he favors a move for his current star player.

Who is Pepê?

Given Pepê's status as a fairly unknown name to those unfamiliar with the Primeira Liga, many Spurs fans will be questioning what exactly they'd be getting if this deal gets done.

In Liga Portugal last season, the winger scored four goals and assisted seven in 28 starts and 34 appearances, however his importance to the Porto side goes beyond goals and assists, and he showed his versatility by operating in a remarkable eight different positions this term.

Using FBRef as a basis, it is clear to see why Spurs are interested. Pepê ranks in the 91st percentile (2.55 per game) for successful take-ons among other left-wingers. Clearly he is a profiecient dribbler and someone who will get fans in N17 off their seats. He also averages 3.44 progressive carries per game (70th percentile).

Porto winger Pepe.

Despite being a flair-filled Brazilian winger, Pepê also isn't afraid to do the dirty work, averaging in the 99th percentile for interceptions (1.5 per game) and also averaging 1.4 tackles per game – he seems tailor-made for the Premier League and Postecoglou's high-intensity style.

Despite not featuring for Brazil's senior side, Pepê had scored three in six for their u23 side.

FBRef also offers an insight into similar players, and one who will stand out to fans of English football will be Sunderland sensation Amad Diallo, on loan from Man United, who lit up the second tier this season with his one-on-one dribbling and finishing.

It does feel like a player who Postecoglou would feel like moulding and improving, similarly to how he did so successfully with the young attacking players at Celtic.

Warriors close in on top spot with six-wicket win

A round-up of the CSA T20 Challenge matches that took place on December 2, 2016

ESPNcricinfo staff03-Dec-2016Andrew Birch’s five-wicket haul helped Warriors close in on Titans’ top position in the table with a six-wicket win in Centurion. After Titans were restricted to 147, the Warriors chase was steered by half-centuries from Colin Ingram and Colin Ackermann.Put in to bat, Aiden Markram (23) and Heinrich Klaasen (26) got starts, but Titans lost wickets regularly once Birch broke the opening stand in the third over. Sisanda Magala and the rest of the attack reduced them to 88 for 5 before Birch returned and took four of the remaining five wickets. That Warriors recovered to 147 was down to Albie Morkel (25 off 21) and David Wiese (36 off 28), and their stand of 42 for the sixth wicket. Birch finished with career-best T20 figures of 5 for 16.Warriors also lost their first wicket early, to Morkel, but JJ Smuts and Ingram put on a rapid 68 in 8.1 overs to put their chase on track. Once Smuts fell for 33 off 25, Ingram and Ackermann pushed the score past 100, and though Ingram fell to Tabraiz Shamsi for 50 off 45, and Ackermann for a quicker 53 off 34 with three sixes, the chase was sealed with seven balls to spare. At the Diamond Oval in Kimberley, left-arm spinner Bjorn Fortuin dented Knights’ chase of 183 with 4 for 39 to give Lions a 20-run win. It was Knights’ sixth consecutive defeat, after their win over Cape Cobras in the tournament opener, as they continued to languish at the bottom of the table.Knights lost Michael Erlank on the first ball of the chase, caught off fast bowler Hardus Viljoen. Partnerships of 46 for the second wicket between captain Theunis de Bruyn and Leus du Plooy, and 50 for the third wicket between du Plooy and Pite van Biljon helped them recover. Du Plooy was trapped lbw by Fortuin having top-scored with 45, and when van Biljon fell to the same bowler for 42, Knights were 123 for 5. They lost another wicket at the same score, before slapping 39 runs off the last 25 balls to finish on 162 for 6.Opting to bat, Lions had a solid foundation laid by openers Rassie van der Dussen and Reeza Hendricks, who put on 66 in 6.5 overs. Hendricks struck five fours and two sixes in his 31-ball knock, and when he fell at the halfway stage, caught off de Bruyn’s pace bowling, he had made 53 out of Lions’ total of 88. Thereafter, Nicky van den Bergh took over and pinged four fours and three sixes before perishing in the last over for 57 off 35.Knights’ bowlers shared the wickets equally with Marchant de Lange, Shadley van Schalkwyk, Aubrey Swanepoel and de Bruyn taking a wicket apiece.

Chelsea target "incredible" £100m ace

The defensive acquisitions under Chelsea’s new owners have divided opinions.

The signing of Benoit Badiashile looks to be a shrewd piece of business, but Kalidou Koulibaly and Marc Cucurella have endured extremely troubled times in their debut seasons at Stamford Bridge; the latter notably being dubbed a "liability" by sections of the media.

This pairing have been regularly singled out as major contributing factors in Chelsea’s dismal demise into midtable mediocrity.

Josko Gvardiol is a name that has been suggested to transform the Blues’ fortunes and propel the club back to where it belongs.

What’s the latest on Josko Gvardiol to Chelsea?

According to 90min, Manchester City are the frontrunners for the 21-year-old, but Chelsea retain an interest having come close to signing him last summer.

The West London outfit nearly completed a £77.7m deal for the Croatian back then, and it has been revealed that Gvardiol has a buyout clause worth around £100m in his current contract that is activated from 2024.

How would Josko Gvardiol fit in at Chelsea?

The centre-back has made 41 appearances for RB Leipzig in all competitions, scoring three times, as he has enjoyed an exponential rise to global stardom.

His popularity skyrocketed at the World Cup as he played every minute of the tournament and was widely praised for his formidable physicality and composure.

The 21-cap international received huge adulation from Rio Ferdinand, who said: “He has got a great presence, he is happy for the battles, very physical and has a wand for a left foot.

“He has got pace too and I think all those attributes you need as a modern-day defender.

“He can pay the ball over various distances, he has pinpoint accuracy. He beats any type of press, is comfortable on either foot and is as comfortable with the ball at his feet as he is running out with it defensively.

“Also, the aggressiveness. He is willing to get forward, that youth, that fearlessness.”

A player of this potential and reputation could form a mind-blowing partnership with Levi Colwill, who the Blues are determined to keep the player amid reports of a £40m bid being weighed up by Brighton.

The 2021 Champions League winners are reportedly intent on keeping the Englishman, who possesses an abundance of elite similarities to Gvardiol.

This is showcased by the fact that the Leipzig titan sits within the best 18% in Europe’s top five leagues among his positional peers for progressive passes and progressive passes per 90, and Colwill ranks slightly better in the top 12% for both metrics.

Levi Colwill in action for Brighton

This ability to orchestrate attacks from their deep-lying berths, allowing their team to retain the ascendancy is an invaluable asset, that is an indispensable trait for any elite side.

If Mauricio Pochettino can begin next season with the aforementioned duo at Stamford Bridge, the club will undoubtedly be a force to be reckoned with.

Described as “incredible” by Croatia manager Zlatko Dalic, the defender is destined for the top.

Wolves could sign £17m "incredible" goal scorer

Wolverhampton Wanderers could be closer to easing their goal scoring woes, as the club have been linked with a goal machine ahead of the summer transfer window.

Julen Lopetegui must find the solution to get his team firing, with Wolves being the lowest scorers in the Premier League, netting just 31 goals in 38 games.

Seeking and recruiting an established goalscorer is difficult for some of the world’s more financially lucrative teams and even more so for the Spaniard, who is facing a difficult summer following the revelation of Wolves’ FFP issues.

The Midlands club shouldn’t give up all hope, as news has emerged linking a goal machine to a potential move to Molineux.

What’s the latest on Georges Mikautadze to Wolves?

As reported by French outlet le10sport, FC Metz striker Georges Mikautadze is rumoured to have gained interest from Wolves.

The Georgian forward, who is valued at €20m (£17m) is wanted by Olympique Lyonnais and Burnley as well as in the Midlands, as stated in the report.

At just 22-years-old, the link could be an exciting one to everyone at Molineux as there is potential for Lopetegui to get his hands on an established goalscorer that won't break the bank.

What could Georges Mikautadze bring to Wolves?

The Lyon-born striker has lit up Ligue 2 this season, making an emphatic 31 goal contributions in 36 appearances for Metz, scoring 23 himself and assisting eight, as per Sofascore.

The Georgian international is the league’s top scorer, averaging a goal every 130 minutes of play and acting as a deadly talisman for his side.

Wolves’ highest-scoring players this season are Ruben Neves and Daniel Podence, who have both scored six goals and neither are strikers, showing the quality that the Metz forward could make in terms of just adding goals alone.

Having been lauded as a “Georgian killer” by talent scout Jacek Kulig, the 22-year-old has a lot more to his game than just putting the ball in the net and could benefit Lopetegui’s side through his passing and creativity.

Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui

As per Sofascore, the Lyon-born forward averages 1.5 key passes per game, as well as creating seven big chances on top of having strengths in dribbling, as noted by WhoScored.

The same outlet also points to his style of play being his liking towards running at players, being a threat on the counter-attack and enjoys playing long balls, as supported by him completing 81% of his long balls this season – as per Sofascore.

At 5 foot 9, the dynamic forward is nimble and agile, making him a real handful for defenders, which is shown by his huge goal contribution this term alone.

Wolves could get themselves a bargain at a critical time, and one that could benefit the future of Lopetegui’s side and end their dreadful form in front of goal as of late.
