Wiaan Mulder became the third maiden centurion for South Africa in the Chattogram Test, as the visitors completely dominated proceedings on the second day. They declared on 575 for 6, with Mulder, Tony de Zorzi and Tristan Stubbs hitting centuries, before their pacers knocked off Bangladesh’s top three inside the first six overs.The hosts sunk to 38 for 4 at stumps, as their recent batting frailties showed up even on the batting-friendly pitch of the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium. Even an award of five penalty runs, due to the umpires finding Senuran Muthusamy damaging the pitch, couldn’t inspire Bangladesh.Kagiso Rabada, recently ranked No. 1 among Test bowlers, had Shadman Islam strangle down the leg side for a duck in the first over. Rabada then removed Zakir Hasan, also caught behind, for 2, in his next over.Dane Paterson got into the act in the sixth over when Mahmudul Hasan Joy chased a wide ball, and edged to Aiden Markram at second slip. Keshav Maharaj bowled a beauty to nightwatcher Hasan Mahmud, who missed it completely to be bowled for 3. It completed an amazing day for South Africa, who dominated from start to finish.If the first day belonged to de Zorzi and Stubbs, the second day was all about Mulder’s century and his partnership with Muthusamy. The pair added 152 runs for the unbroken seventh wicket, breaking South Africa’s record for this wicket against Bangladesh from the previous Test in Dhaka, where Mulder and Kyle Verreynne had added 119.Mulder and Muthusamy had come together when Bangladesh suddenly grabbed a bit of momentum in the day’s first session. Taijul Islam snapped up David Bedingham, de Zorzi and Verreynne in consecutive overs to give the home team some respite. Bedingham missed a slog-sweep to be bowled, while de Zorzi and Verreynne also missed sweeps to be given out lbw.Taijul completed his five-for, before Nahid Rana removed Ryan Rickelton. Bangladesh were hopeful of wrapping South Africa up early at the time, but Mulder and Muthusamy took South Africa towards a massive total. Mulder was generally good down the ground, hitting all his eight fours and four sixes between wide long-off and mid-on. Muthusamy fed Mulder the strike regularly, but also struck the ball sweetly.Muthusamy struck two sixes through long-on, apart from fours through mid-off, fine leg and backward point. His ticked boundary through the slips took him to his maiden Test fifty.Taijul was the pick of the Bangladesh bowlers with his 14th five-wicket haul, but it was also the team’s most expensive five-for, as he went for 198 runs. Nahid took a wicket, but Hasan Mahmud and Mehidy Hasan Miraz disappointed with their wicketless efforts.

In an attempt to finally get their summer transfer business underway, Fulham are now reportedly set to make a formal approach to sign a Premier League rival.

Fulham get pre-season underway

Their summer business may not be underway just yet, but Fulham have officially commenced their pre-season schedule. The Cottagers most recently defeated West Bromwich Albion courtesy of Emile Smith Rowe’s effort and are set to travel to Portugal, where they will square off against Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad.

Meanwhile, the most important business at Craven Cottage so far this summer has come internally. Having managed to keep hold of Marco Silva at the end of last season, the West London club have since announced new deals for captain Tom Cairney and young star Josh King. Cairney was one who looked particularly likely to leave, before putting pen to paper to end any speculation.

The experienced midfielder told Fulham’s official website after the news of his deal was revealed: “I’m happy to sign for another year at this amazing football club, I’m delighted. It feels brilliant. It feels right. It’s always been home.

“I’ve fully enjoyed the last three years in the Premier League, contributing on and off the pitch, and I just want to help take this Club as far as I can. I’ll always try and do that.”

The focus for Fulham should now turn towards summer arrivals. As impressive as Silva’s side were last season – finishing as high as 11th – they’ll have their sights set on breaking into the top-half for the first time in two seasons when the next campaign gets underway.

It looks as though things are now finally beginning to emerge on that front too, with one Premier League rival now in Fulham’s sights.

Fulham set to make first Dewsbury-Hall approach

According to Sky Sports’ Dharmesh Sheth, Fulham are expected to make a formal approach for Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall if they believe that a deal is viable with London rivals Chelsea. The midfielder has struggled for minutes ever since arriving at Stamford Bridge, but could now cross the divide to get back to his best.

Despite a frustrating first season in the Premier League, Dewsbury-Hall still managed five goals and four assists in all competitions and even earned the praise of Enzo Maresca along the way.

The Chelsea boss told reporters: “I am very happy for Kiernan. He is now much better compared to the start of the season, probably because he is understanding his role. He is working very well every day in training, even if he doesn’t get many minutes in the Premier League.

“It’s not easy to work every day with the same intention, but he is working fantastic. He showed how important he can be for us, and hopefully he can be even more important from now on.”

James Anderson’s preparations for his farewell Test, at Lord’s next week, suffered a setback after rain washed out the entire second day of the Vitality County Championship match between Lancashire and Nottinghamshire at Southport.Despite early showers, umpires Martin Saggers and Tom Lungley initially decreed that Lancashire would resume their first innings at 12.30pm, but prolonged rain returned to scupper that plan and the officials finally pulled the plug on the day’s cricket at 4.05pm.The abandonment was a particular disappointment to spectators who had travelled to Trafalgar Road in the hope of seeing Anderson bowl in his first game of the season, and what might yet be his last game for Lancashire.He is due to play his 188th and final Test match against West Indies at Lord’s, starting on July 10, and though he had previously indicated that he would be keen to continue his county career, Rob Key, England’s director of cricket, confirmed on Monday that Anderson is to stay on with the England team after the Lord’s Test, to fulfil a new role as a fast-bowling mentor.Should play be possible on Tuesday, Lancashire will resume on 344 for eight with skipper Keaton Jennings on 188 not out.In the nine games played at Southport since first-class cricket returned to the ground after a 12-year absence in 2011, this is only the second time in 31 days that play has been completely abandoned.

It is clear that Manchester United have identified the top end of the pitch as the area of the team that needs improving during the summer transfer window.

The Red Devils have already completed the signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers for £62.5m, and there are set to be further attacking reinforcements to arrive at Old Trafford.

The Brazil international is a strong start to the window for Ruben Amorim, because he produced 15 goals and six assists in the Premier League for the Old Gold in the 2024/25 campaign.

Cunha is a proven performer in the top-flight, as evidenced by his goal contributions over the past nine months, and the former Atletico Madrid star is set to compete for one of the number ten spots behind the striker.

After signing the Brazilian star, Manchester United are also in the market to bring a new number nine to Old Trafford, with Juventus forward Dusan Vlahovic reportedly one of the players on their radar.

The Red Devils have also reportedly made an approach to sign Eintracht Frankfurt number nine Hugo Ekitike to bolster their options up front, after the French youngster international plundered 22 goals and 12 assists for the German side in the 2024/25 campaign.

As well as a new striker, Amorim is also in the market to add another number ten option alongside Cunha, with a Premier League star in his crosshairs.

According to Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg, Manchester United have a “verbal agreement” in place with Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo.

The reporter claims that the Premier League giants are already in talks with the Bees over a deal to sign the Cameroon international, and that he has given his blessing for the clubs to discuss a move.

Plettenberg adds that the Red Devils, who will not be competing in any European competition next season, remain “optimistic” that a deal will go through during the summer transfer window.

The journalist states, however, that Tottenham Hotspur have joined the race to sign the left-footed star, because they have appointed the attacker’s former manager, Thomas Frank.

Spurs are hoping that their new head coach will be able to convince the 25-year-old whiz to make the move to North London to reunite with him, but Manchester United remain optimistic in spite of the fresh competition for his signature.

Ahead of what could be a big summer, PIF have reportedly joined the race to sign an in-demand Premier League midfielder who scored in a 4-0 thrashing of Newcastle United this season.

With Champions League football in their grasp, Newcastle could be back to flexing their financial muscles for the first time in two transfer windows this summer. PSR constraints have forced the Magpies to take a step back in the last year or so but it remains to be seen whether those same obstacles are in place this time around.

Of course, without them, Newcastle’s spending could take Eddie Howe’s side to another level given PIF’s position among football’s richest owners. Just who arrives with that potential spending power in mind remains to be seen, but that hasn’t stopped the rumours from coming thick and fast.

Names such as Liam Delap and Ademola Lookman have both found themselves in the headlines in recent weeks, with Newcastle among the sides interested in securing their services. There’s no doubt that both players would add that extra injection of quality in Newcastle’s squad as Howe seeks the depth he’s desperately lacked in recent times.

What is certain is that the Newcastle boss deserves to be backed this summer if it is possible. Howe has not only ended the club’s long wait for a trophy this season, but he also has them sat as high as third and on course for Champions League qualification all without significant arrivals in the last year.

According to Esteemed Kompany, PIF have now joined the race to sign James McAtee for Newcastle this summer, standing alongside the likes of Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund in a European tug-of-war for his signature. With just one year left on his Manchester City deal too, the academy graduate will reportedly be available for just €30m (£26m) in the coming months.

Newcastle should, of course, already know all about McAtee’s quality after he scored in a 4-0 thrashing of Newcastle for City earlier this season in a moment that showed only a glimpse of his full potential.

Pep Guardiola hasn’t shied away from praising the 22-year-old this season, either. The Spaniard told reporters after McAtee’s hat-trick against Salford in the FA Cup: “I am so happy for him, he is a special player.

The Reds are among the teams keeping a close eye on Dean Huijsen from AFC Bournemouth. The Spain international has been a standout performer for the Cherries this season, and that has put him on the radar of several big teams from England and abroad. It’s also been claimed that Chelsea have held talks with Huijsen over a possible move to Stamford Bridge.

Liverpool remain in the race and received a welcome boost this week, as it’s been reported that Real Madrid may pull out of the race to sign Huijsen; that is because they are not sure if they want to sign a defender this summer, leaving the door open for Liverpool, who know Huijsen has a £50 million release clause in his contract.

Liverpool lead Man City in race to sign Premier League defender

Huijsen is not the only defender on the Reds’ transfer list, as according to Give Me Sport’s Ben Jacobs, Liverpool are leading the way when it comes to signing Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth this summer.

The report states that Kerkez, who has been with the Cherries since July 2023, is expected to leave Bournemouth this summer, as while he doesn’t have a release clause in his contract, they will allow him to leave should they receive offers worth £40 million.

This report goes on to add that Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City have all kept an eye on Kerkez, but none have entered into fresh talks over a transfer. City in particular “appreciate” him, but a deal there is unlikely and a move to become Andy Robertson’s successor looks more probable.

The Scotland international still has another 12 months left on his contract at Anfield, but given he is 31 and making more mistakes with each passing season, Slot is looking to the future and sees Kerkez as a player who could be his long-term successor.

Kerkez has impressed a lot in this campaign, assisting six goals as well as grabbing two himself in 33 games, as the Cherries continue their pursuit of finishing in a European position.

The 21-year-old has started every game he’s been available for in the league this season, so were he to arrive at Liverpool, he would likely want to start immediately and relegate Robertson to a supporting role.
