Celtic Football club have announced that Brendan Rodgers has signed a new deal at the club that will see him stay on as manager until 2021.
Earlier in the day reporters had informed fans that Celtic had moved their normal pre-match press conference to Celtic Park as they prepared to make a ‘major announcement’
The announcement certainly didn’t disappoint, the news being a massive boost for the support in the wake of a huge week which saw them win their sixth successive title in a row.
Given the campaign Celtic have had, some fans had feared that teams in England would be interested in his services, but it’s now clear that Rodgers sees his future at the club well beyond this season and he’s set to play a massive role in securing the hallowed ten titles in a row that supporters crave so badly.
The Hoops have plenty of goals left between now and the end of the season with both a domestic treble of trophies and an unbeaten season on the line. Re-affirming his commitment to the club could provide the whole of Celtic Park with new energy heading into that critical time.

According to the London Evening Standard, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in bringing Hull City centre-back Harry Maguire to the club at the end of the season.
What’s the story?
Tottenham Hotspur’s disappointing performance in Europe this season has demonstrated that Mauricio Pochettino does not have a squad capable of challenging in a number of competitions.
Spurs’ first XI is as good as any in the Premier League, and it still might be enough to see the capital side snatch the title away from Chelsea in the final weeks of the 2016-17 campaign.
Investment is needed in this summer’s transfer window, however, and as well as targeting attackers, it is understood that Pochettino will seek reinforcements at centre-back.
According to the London Evening Standard, Hull defender Maguire has impressed Tottenham’s scouts this season, and the 24-year-old could be heading for the London club this summer.
Is anyone else in the race?
In short, yes. Maguire, who is valued at £2m by transfermarkt.co.uk, will be out of contract at the end of the 2017-18 campaign, and it is understood that the centre-back will be allowed to leave the KCOM Stadium this summer for £12m.
Maguire’s wages, which are believed to be in the region of £20,000 a week, are manageable for a number of Premier League clubs, whilst the former England Under-21 international is said to be interested in a move to London.
The former Sheffield United centre-back has made 26 Premier League appearances for Hull this season, scoring twice in the process. Meanwhile, the powerful defender’s form in 2017 has seen him handed the captain’s armband by Tigers boss Marco Silva on a number of occasions.
Everton have been strongly linked with a move for Maguire in recent weeks, whilst Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is thought to be a long-term admirer of the central defender.
Manchester City and Liverpool are also in need of a new centre-back this summer, and it does appear that Maguire’s availability, for such a reasonable price, could spark a transfer scramble.
The 24-year-old’s maturity for a team fighting relegation has been noted by a number of managers this season, and the winner of the race for his signature would be signing a player capable of becoming a consistent performer at the highest level.
In 2001, Leeds United bowed out of the UEFA Champions League at the final semi-final stage at the hands of Spanish side Valencia. In the group stages, Leeds finished above Barcelona, knocking the Catalan club out of the competition. Three years later Leeds were relegated to the second tier of English football.
Since that fateful day in 2004, the Whites have not had much to cheer about. Another relegation led to several years of League One obscurity, and even since returning to the second division, they have never looked like forcing a return to the promise land.
That has all changed this season. With the talented, young Garry Monk at the helm, Leeds have looked a different side this season. After seeming destined for a play-off spot for a large swathe of the season, the wheels are starting to come off Monk’s Premier League assault. This weekend the club dropped out of the top 6. Wins from their next three games will surely buy a ticket to the raffle, but nothing is assured.
If Leeds secure a play-off berth, anything is possible during the month of May. If they do not, Monk and his players are sure to be crushed. Whatever happens, the former Swansea manager has a lot to do this summer to ensure his squad is ready for the new campaign.
But what should Monk’s Leeds United’s priorities be this summer? Here we take a look at what the Elland Road outfit must do…
Top: Priority: Keep Chris Wood
In recent years, Leeds United have been blessed with a natural goal scorer. Jermaine Beckford dragged the Yorkshire team back to the Championship with his exploits. Luciano Becchio and Ross McCormack continued the tradition in the higher division. This year Chris Wood is the man behind the goals.
The big Kiwi striker has been a revelation this year, and leads the way with 25 goals from an impressive 75 shots on target. Wood’s form has kept Leeds campaign alive, with his goals accounting for almost half of Leeds’ total. The New Zealand Herald linked the player with a big money move to Everton last month, and do not be surprised to find more clubs snooping.
Wood is a striker with a huge presence, and after honing his game in the Championship after an unsuccessful spell with West Brom, the forward appears ready to tackle the Premier League. Leeds would struggle to replace Wood’s goals, and the New Zealander is key to Leeds’ hopes for next season, wherever they may be.
Medium Priority: Rebuild

If Leeds fail to go up, Monk will have a big job on his hands. Players will leave, and morale will be shot. Monk is an excellent man manager, and has the ability to turn things round. He will need to evoke the mental strength of his players to come back stronger, and have another crack at Premier League elevation.
If Leeds go up, he has an even harder task to accomplish! Building a squad capable of top flight survival is no easy task, and the side’s that avoid relegation this time round will be sure to spend big to save flirting with the drop once more.
Leeds have a strong squad, but they will need players of calibre to stay up. Monk will have to be savvy in the market, and will have be working on fine margins to balance the squad from last year, with the new recruits.
Low: Priority: Look to youth
Leeds United are famed for their successful youth system, and it does not look like the production line is set to end any time soon. Several youngsters have been afforded first team opportunities this season, including the exceptionally talented Ronaldo Vieira. Drawing comparisons with his namesake, former Arsenal captain, Patrick, the 18-year-old has appeared in Leeds’ midfield 31 times in the Championship this season.
A fantastic break out season for such a youngster, Vieira is only expected to get better. If United can hold on to, and continue to produce such prestigious talent, then the club’s Italian owners may well keep their cheque books in their finely produced suit pockets for now.
Manchester United go into today’s match away to Arsenal knowing that only a win will really do if they are to pull off the unlikely feat of finishing in the top four of the English Premier League.
UEFA Champions League football is the goal whether it comes through the league or a UEFA Europa League win, meaning the club are in the middle of their most important part of the season.
Draws have plagued Jose Mourinho’s side all season but if they can start winning in the tail-end of the season they still have a chance of closing down Liverpool or Manchester City.
Lose or draw today and they’ll have to hope they have what it takes to lift European football’s second-tier competition.
With everything at stake you’d think Red Devils fans may be feeling a little nervous, but that doesn’t appear to be the case.
Many fans are actually confident Mourinho’s team can battle through injury and inconsistency to pick up a massive result over Arsene Wenger’s men.

Manchester United are just one win away from sealing their second trophy of the season after reaching the Europa League final, but the manner in which they did so caught the attention of BBC and BT Sport pundit Gary Lineker.Jose Mourinho’s men will face Ajax in the showpiece in Stockholm on May 24 after they earned a 2-1 aggregate win over Celta Vigo.It was a tense semi-final second leg for United fans as their Spanish opponents came out firing at Old Trafford on Thursday night. It was the Red Devils, though, who took the lead when Marouane Fellaini headed in a pin-pointed cross from Marcus Rashford.Having a 2-0 lead thanks to Rashford’s goal in Spain during the first leg gave United some breathing room, but in the 85th minute Facundo Roncaglia scored for Celta, causing a nervy end to the match.Former Manchester City striker John Guidetti had the chance to score that all-important goal in the final kick of the game when he was found in the box, but he fluffed his attempt and United squeezed through to the final.Lineker congratulated the English giants for reaching the Europa showdown, but he did take a subtle swipe at the amount of draws that the club have had at Old Trafford.Mourinho’s men have now played out 12 draws in all competitions, 11 of which have been in the Premier League.
Some would say no. Again the Reds failed to win a single piece of silverware despite not having any European football to contend with. They also had an horrific start to the new year, slipping from genuine title challengers to top four maybes in the space of six weeks.
Some, however would say yes. Jurgen Klopp’s side, for the most part, have produced an entertaining brand of football, and most of the summer signings have paid off. The club have also secured Champions league football for next year, for only the second time in eight seasons.
Whichever way, one thing for certain is that Liverpool need to invest and improve to ensure they can both challenge for the Premier League title and be competitive in Europe next season.
It is no secret either that the Reds are less than reliable at the back, having been unable to find a compatible centre-half partnership capable of winning titles. Two names linked with a move to Anfield are Southampton’s 12-cap Dutchman Virgil van Dijk and Hull City’s Harry Maguire, who is valued at just £2.13million by Transfermarkt.
But who would you rather have at the back next season, Liverpool fans? Let us know by voting below…
Arsene Wenger put rumours of ending an Arsenal career which has spanned two decades to bed by signing a two-year contract last week.
The cries of ‘Wenger Out’ and engines of a few planes fell on deaf ears as the Frenchman decided to extend his stay despite finishing outside of the top four, albeit for the first time since he took the Gunners’ reins in 1996.
It is easy to understand where some of the vitriol has come from, with a particularly trying period from the end of January to mid-April where the Arsenal won just two out of eight league games (including losses to Watford, West Brom and Crystal Palace) and were unceremoniously dumped out of Europe by Bayern Munich with a 10-2 aggregate score.
There have been signs of improvement however, with an upturn in form at the end of the season culminating in a 2-1 FA Cup win and seemingly doing enough to convince the Arsenal hierarchy (and, more likely, Wenger himself) that the have the right man for the job.
The ‘Wenger In, Wenger Out’ hokey-cokey that has taken place over the last six months or so is – for now at least – a moot point. It is time instead to focus on what the Frenchman should be looking to achieve going forward from here and how the decision could benefit Arsenal apart from potential silverware.

As mentioned above, there are some reasons for Arsenal fans to feel optimistic that Wenger can still produce results. After a particularly abject performance in their 3-0 loss at Selhurst Park, the Frenchman shook things up and employed a three-at-the-back formation against Middlesbrough to address his defensive woes.
The change proved a qualified success, with nine wins out of the final ten league games and, while four clean sheets in that time hardly screams title-winners, they squad looked more and more confident in the system the more they played in it.
Results aside, it showed that the infamously stubborn Wenger was willing to admit where his team was failing and address the flaws. While it came too late to salvage Champions League football this campaign, it bodes well for a side ready to kick on that their manager may finally be willing to adapt with the times.
For a side that have had to become used to “settling” for top four football each season, the fans should be pleased to hear that Wenger is talking about winning the title once more. While this could be seen as empty words, it is at least a departure from the rhetoric suggesting the top four is the Gunners’ main aim and inspires some hope the Frenchman intends to go all out for one more title.
Finally, and perhaps something to placate the ‘Wenger Out’ brigade, is that two years gives the club the perfect chance to build for the Post-Wenger era. We’ve seen what has happened to Manchester United when they had to act fast to replace Sir Alex Ferguson, and they were arguably the best-placed club to go through with it. Just imagine how Arsenal could fare if they did the same with less money to throw around – particularly with no guarantees a more esteemed custodian would take Wenger’s place.
At least with Wenger at the helm, Arsenal can begin looking at other viable replacements and plan ahead while the club is still in safe – if not always spectacular – hands, rather than trying to blindly lay the track as they go as we have seen from United and Liverpool before.
Without that opportunity, who knows what the cries of fans or banners on aeroplanes would be proclaiming two years for now.

According to reports in The Telegraph, West Ham United could face competition from Manchester United in the race to sign out-of-favour Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart this summer, but they are still the favourites to get the stopper.
What’s the word, then?
Well, the story suggests that the Irons are keen to bring Hart to the London Stadium on a loan deal to become their new number one, and that the 30-year-old is keen to link up with the east London outfit.
However, if Manchester United were to sell David De Gea to Real Madrid before the start of next season, then Red Devils manager Jose Mourinho would be keen on signing the England international too.
It seems unlikely that he would move for the stopper if De Gea stays at Old Trafford, particularly as he has Sergio Romero in reserve already and the fact that Hart will want to be playing regularly.
Would Hart be happy with a loan deal?
The Telegraph say that the 30-year-old would probably prefer a permanent move in order to kick-start his career and definitely know where he is going to be for the next few seasons at least, but if the deal with West Ham is a loan with a view to a permanent deal then that would probably work too.
If De Gea does, would City do business with United?
While Jose Mourinho would love to take a player from City that is so well-liked by the supporters, the chances of the two doing business considering they could be Premier League title rivals next season seems very unlikely.
Is Hart’s England place really under threat?
It certainly could be, yes.
The 30-year-old came under scrutiny after conceding two almost identical free-kicks from Leigh Griffiths in the Three Lions’ recent 2-2 draw with Scotland, while he was also at fault in the defeat to Iceland at Euro 2016.
With the likes of Fraser Forster, Jack Butland and Jordan Pickford all pressing him, his number one spot is certainly under threat.
What’s the verdict, then?
Well, unless David De Gea goes to Real Madrid then there is no deal to be done between Manchester City and Manchester United for Joe Hart, and it would be hugely unlikely even if they did sell the Spaniard.
West Ham certainly remain in pole position to get the stopper and his arrival could be a big statement of intent after a disappointing campaign.
According to Footmercato, West Ham have joined a number of European clubs in eyeing Bundesliga midfielder Thorgan Hazard.
What’s the Story?
The report from France claims that West Ham have joined the race to sign Belgian international, and brother of Eden, Thorgan Hazard from Borussia Monchengladbach.
It is thought that the Hammers will join a long list of interested parties who wish to snap up the 24-year-old, including Arsenal, Stoke City, Leicester City, Monaco and Lyon.
Hazard, who is valued at £10.2million by transfermarkt, has reportedly spoken of his admiration for Premier League football in the past and could make a return to the English game, which he left two years ago.
How good has Hazard been this season?
A mixed bag. While Thorgan has obviously been nowhere near as impressive as his brother and former teammate Eden, the 24-year-old is still one of the most enjoyable players to watch in the German game.
Injuries were a real issue for the Belgian and disrupted his season immeasurably. Nevertheless, he still managed 10 goals and six assists in just 27 appearances in all competitions.
The Belgian was actually one of the most in-form players in Europe during the first two months of the season, before injuries took their toll. He had scored seven time in 10 games and was lighting up the Bundesliga with some sumptuous offensive displays and technical skills.
Should Hazard head to the Hammers?
A good move for both parties. West Ham would be getting a classy young player who will run his socks off for the shirt, while the player would be at the highest platform that any footballer can reach – the Premier League.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has given the green light for Sergio Aguero to join Chelsea, according to Spanish journalistÂManu Sainz.
What’s the word?
It has become clear that the Premier League champions are on the hunt for another striker, particularly as Diego Costa is likely to leave this summer.
Romelu Lukaku was heavily tipped to return to Stamford Bridge, but instead, he joined Manchester United in a £75m deal.
Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata, Torino hitman Andrea Belotti and Borussia Dortmund attacker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang have been linked to Chelsea, and now it appears that Aguero is on the list.
Spanish journalist Manu Sainz tweeted on Sunday that City manager Guardiola would allow the Argentine to move to Stamford Bride.
He wrote:”They tell me that Chelsea want to Kun Aguero. Guardiola would have already given the ok to operation…”
If true, it is a risky move from Guardiola, but the ex-Barcelona boss may feel that young talent Gabriel Jesus is more worthy of a starting spot this season.
The Brazilian ousted Aguero from the first XI when he arrived at City in January, and if it were not for injury, the 20-year-old may have had a longer spell as first choice.
Is Aguero right for Chelsea?
The 29-year-old’s quality is sometimes overlooked, but he has consistently provided goals since his arrival in England in 2011.
After joining from Atletico Madrid, Aguero has hit double figures in every Premier League season.
In total, the striker has scored 122 goals in 181 appearances in the top flight, and he would certainly be a good replacement for Costa.
Chelsea would have been disappointed to miss out on Lukaku, but bringing in a striker who is proven and well-adapted to English football is a strong alternative.
Aguero has suffered with muscular problems in the past few seasons, and will be entering his 30s next year, but he is guaranteed to score goals for the Blues.
